I’ve never had a kid, and for that, I get treated like a second class citizen by most of evangelical and Baptist Christianity, all of whom assume having a baby makes a woman more responsible, godly, and mature.
As to the other well worn Christian trope, that “family is the backbone” of society – how can family be the backbone of society when I see so many stories of mothers abusing their kids, fathers raping their own daughters?
I’ve never married, never had a baby – number of babies I have crushed to death with a sledgehammer and slit their throats: remains at zero.
This also puts another nail in the coffin of the other Christian trope: as soon as you are perfect, godly enough, that is when God will send you a spouse. Really? Because I don’t think crushing a baby’s head in with a sledge hammer is indicative of perfection or holiness (the woman who smashed the baby’s head in is married).

Left to babysit her 6-month-old granddaughter, a suburban Chicago woman instead turned on the infant, bludgeoning her and cutting her throat, prosecutors said Monday.
Alfreda Giedrojc is being held without bail after a court appearance Monday afternoon, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. She was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her granddaughter, Simonton said.
The girl’s father brought her to Giedrojc’s home in the southwestern suburb of Oak Lawn on Sunday while he helped with repairs on a nearby home, Simonton told CNN.
“Her father and grandfather had stepped out of the grandparents’ house for a short time when this horrific event took place,” Oak Lawn police said in a written statement on the death.
While her husband was away, Giedrojc laid the child on the floor, pulled a sledgehammer from a nearby closet and swung it down on her head and body several times. She then picked the baby up and used a carving knife to slit her throat when she was still alive, Simonton said.
Oak Lawn Det. Mike Kaufmann said the 61-year-old Giedrojc expressed remorse for the child’s death when questioned, and investigators have found no record of previous arrests or mental illness.

Alfreda Giedrojc, 61, allegedly struck the infant with a sledge hammer and then slit the still-living child’s throat with a knife on Sunday morning, prosecutors claim. Authorities are holding the suspect without bail at the Cermak Hospital in Cook County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder.
According to the CBS Chicago affiliate, prosecutor Michael Deno indicated that “Giedrojc allegedly laid the girl on the floor when she was alone with her and then retrieved a sledge hammer from a closet she had placed there the night before.After striking the baby multiple times, the baby was still crying and moving, so the grandmother slit the child’s throat with a large carving knife.”

The infant had been dropped off by her father, Giedrocz’s son-in-law, who was helping Giedrocz’s son work on his house across the street. Giedrocz’s husband, Bill, went over to check on their progress, leaving Giedrocz alone with the child, Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Deno said.
Then, Deno said, Giedrocz went to a closet and pulled out a sledgehammer she had placed there the night before.
“The defendant then hit the victim repeatedly in the head and body with the sledgehammer,” Deno said. “Since the victim was still crying and moving, the defendant then went to the kitchen and retrieved a large carving knife.
“The defendant then picked the victim up, held her and then slit her throat with the knife.”
