Christian Groups Sexualize Disney Kid Movie – Frozen

Christian Groups Sexualize Disney Kid Movie – Frozen

I haven’t seen “Frozen,” but I have seen commercials advertising it, as well as many reviews and a few “spoilers.”

I did not see anything sexual about it at all in the material I previewed, but sometime in the last week, some oddball Christian guy (or group) have been running around the media claiming that the Disney kid movie “Frozen” contains lesbian propaganda.

This story in turn has been mention all over the internet, from sites that are Christian to ones by ex Christians and atheists. Most everyone is in agreement (from what I’ve seen so far) that the person (or persons) making these claims is an idiot.

I remember over ten years ago when what’s his face (Falwell?) claimed that Tinky Winky was homosexual because he carried a purse around.

I wish people would stop reading sex into things that are not necessarily sexual.

Notice, also (this is an excerpt from the first link below),

National Catholic Register writer Steven Greydanus said the rejected Elsa is a symbol for oppressed gay people, while he also pointed out that Elsa, unlike her boy-crazy sister, shows no interest in dating and, therefore, must be a lesbian.

Say what? Does this idiot not realize the Bible teaches lifelong celibacy as a choice, including for heterosexuals?

Maybe someone is hetero but chooses to remain single – and the Bible is fine with that lifestyle choice, why must these paranoid social conservatives assume that someone who is single, not crazy about dating, must necessarily be lesbian or homosexual? Some people are asexual and have little to no interest in sex or romance. That’s fine too.

The hit movie “Frozen” has come under fire from conservative conspiracy theorists for having a secret “gay agenda.”

Conservative parents and grandparents are being warned not to let their impressionable young children watch the 108-minute Disney musical because it’s allegedly pure gay propaganda, according to The Daily Beast.

On her blog, “A Well-Behaved Mormon Woman,” Kathryn Skaggs said she discovered the movie was promoting the gay lifestyle after seeing it three times with various grandchildren.

“The gay agenda to normalize homosexuality is woven into Disney’s movie ‘Frozen’ not just as an underlying message — it is the movie,” she wrote. “In a liberal culture tenacious at normalizing immorality, stripping those of faith from their ability to speak out in opposition, this needs to be taken seriously.

“It is apparent that the very best talent within the industry was called upon … in order to woo its intended audience, parents, into a frozen-state, which would then allow liberalism to indoctrinate children.”

Religious Right radio talk show Kevin Swanson went even further, accusing Disney of using the film to turn children gay.

“This evil, just evil,” the pastor said. “I wonder if people are thinking: ‘You know I think this cute little movie is going to indoctrinate my 5-year-old to be a lesbian or treat homosexuality or bestiality in a light sort of way.’

“I wonder if the average parent going to see ‘Frozen’ is thinking that way. I wonder if they are just walking in and saying, ‘Yeah, let’s get my 5-year-old and 7-year-old indoctrinated early.’ I think for the most part they’re oblivious. Maybe they do pick up on pieces of it, but they just don’t get up and walk out.”

His co-host Steve Vaughn said Disney is using the movie “to indoctrinate my 5-year-old to be a lesbian.”

However, Skaggs, Swanson, and Vaughn do not provide specific examples of lines, scenes, or even themes in the movie showing that ‘Frozen’ has a hidden homosexual agenda.

Skaggs said the “gay messaging” is clearly indicated in the central character, Elsa’s, magical powers, which the blogger calls a metaphor for homosexuality.

Elsa is ostracized by the public and her family, just like the “demonization of homosexuals by society,” said Skaggs, adding that Elsa’s non-magical sister Anna’s shotgun wedding to a man she barely knows illustrated how “heterosexuals diminish marriage.”

National Catholic Register writer Steven Greydanus said the rejected Elsa is a symbol for oppressed gay people, while he also pointed out that Elsa, unlike her boy-crazy sister, shows no interest in dating and, therefore, must be a lesbian.

Daily Beast writer Caitlin Dickson asked whether ‘Frozen’ was “the gayest movie of the year,” adding, “If you’re legitimately concerned about a Disney movie turning your children gay, you might be just the choir Swanson and Skaggs are preaching to.”

Anyone who actually saw Disney’s hit animated movie Frozen can tell you it’s a cute story wrapped in slick visuals, all of which adds up to a pretty entertaining time. If you didn’t see it, though, you may just jump to the conclusion that it promotes homosexuality and bestiality to our young children. For some reason.

Colorado radio pastor Kevin Swanson of the Reformation Church, at least, did just that on a recent episode of his show alongside co-host Steve Vaughn. As per Swanson’s take on the children’s film, it would seem that Frozen has “something evil happening” and may “indoctrinate my 5-year-old to be a lesbian” or “treat homosexuality or bestiality in a light sort of way.”

Oh, Kevin. Poor, misguided Kevin. If he’d seen the film (which he did not), he’d know that the story that raked in $1 billion worldwide centers on the young protagonist Anna going on a quest to find her evil sister Elsa. Essentially, it’s a story that shows love doesn’t exist only between a man and woman, but can also be sisterly. Which, to the Christian radio host ear apparently means that the Devil likely purchased Disney in 1984.

    No, seriously:

“You wonder sometimes, I’m not a tinfoil hat conspiratorialist, but you wonder sometimes if maybe there’s something very evil happening here. If I was the Devil, what would I do to really foul up an entire social system and do something really, really, really evil to 5- and 6- and 7-year-olds in Christian families around America?…If I was the Devil, I would buy Disney in 1984, that’s what I would have done.”

Swanson added that Disney is “one of the most pro-homosexual organizations in the country” as a negative in a society where we give awards for that kind of progressiveness. So, you know, that’s the type of person we’re dealing with.

Frozen, meanwhile, took home an Oscar for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song and delighted millions of people of all ages.

… Like Skaggs, neither Swanson nor his co-host Steve Vaughn, offer much in the way of specific examples of lines, scenes or even themes in the movie that prove their point.

In fact, the only proof of “gay messaging” Skaggs provides is the suggestion that the main character Elsa’s magical power is a metaphor for homosexuality: She is ostracized by the public and even her family, just like the “demonization of homosexuals by society.”

Elsa’s non-magical sister Anna’s shotgun wedding to someone she barely knows is meant to illustrate how “heterosexuals diminish marriage.” And, of course, the happy ending wherein Elsa’s family and community finally accept her for who she is sends the message that gays (Elsa) are not the problem, but rather society is the problem for rejecting them.

National Catholic Register writer Steven Greydanus (who actually questioned Frozen’s gayness back in January) not only saw the rejected Elsa as a symbol for oppressed gay people, he also points out that Elsa, unlike her boycrazy sister, shows no interest in dating, so clearly she is a lesbian.

If that’s not enough, following the closing credits “Elsa’s giant, male-voiced snow monster, wandering through her abandoned ice palace, picks up her abandoned tiara and places it daintily on his own head, smiling as it discovers its true inner princess.”

Disney has a long history of fielding accusations of using its children’s movies to advance one liberal agenda or another —whether it’s gay rights, environmentalism or socialism. However, there seems to be something about Frozen that has attracted more than the usual amount of controversy for a kids’ cartoon.

Frozen is a feminist movie, claimed some critics, because neither of its female protagonists are rescued by a handsome prince in the end but, rather, they save themselves. Frozen is not so feminist, others argued, because Elsa’s climactic “coming out,” if you will, includes an arguably sexy makeover.

Others still took the time to call Frozen racist, accusing Disney of “whitewashing” the indigenous people of Scandinavia, where the animated film is supposed to take place. And this was all before John Travolta epically flubbed singer Idina Menzel’s name, creating a fictional person and immediately overplayed meme, at the Academy Awards.

Those fearing Frozen’s homosexual agenda might want to consider the agendas of its critics. Kevin Swanson, for example, declared that “decadent homosexual activity,” marijuana legalization and abortion rights were to blame for the floods that devastated Colorado last summer.

And despite insisting in her Frozen post that she is “not anti-gay” nor “here to judge homosexuals,” Kathryn Skaggs has dedicated a large number of her blog posts to advocating for “traditional marriage.”
