Pro-Rape Pastor Defends Church’s Hiring of Child Rapist – Adult Singles: Dump the Equally Yoked Teaching

I spotted this link (shared farther down page) when it was shared on WatchKeep’s Twitter today. My blog is not about child sexual abuse per se. I tend to focus, most often, on issues surrounding adult singleness.

If you are an adult Christian single who wants to be married, please reconsider following the “Be equally yoked” teaching. Whether or not the guy in this news story I have in this blog post is a “true” Christian or not is beside the point.

You can date a Christian man who you believe to be a “true” Christian – maybe you met him at church (which is pretty rare because single males do not attend churches), or maybe you met him on a Christian dating site (which some Christian men have used to select rape victims), and he shows all the outward signs of “loving the Lord” and so on and so forth – but then it is revealed he is a child rapist.

Would you really want to discover the guy you married is a child rapist, or views child porn?

I also question the pastor of this church who is defending the child rapist: could you imagine marrying a preacher, who you would assume is a godly man, only to find out he blames child rape victims for having been raped?

Also be aware that pedophiles actively seek wife material at churches. That’s right, single Christian lady: some guy who is a pedophile may start flirting with you at church or in Sunday School, hoping you will date and marry him. I did (Link): a post about this several days ago.

Excerpt:

A Kentucky pastor is defending the decision to allow a convicted sex offender [Thomas Hopper] to work at his church [Truth Apostolic Church].

… Hopper was convicted of rape and sodomy of a 13-year-old girl in the early 1990s, followed by multiple criminal convictions in the early 2000s.  …

…When asked about the rape conviction, Orten [the pastor] said “this is a situation, if that girls chooses…it takes two to tango, okay?  So if that girl chooses to sleep with him, she’s just as guilty as he is.”

I have no words for what an ignorant, insensitive POS that pastor is.

This pastor even compares rape to stealing candy from a store (see the article below for that). I am so tired of Christians who make all sins equivalent: they are not. Some sins are in fact worse than others – not only secular law says this is so, but so too does the God of the Bible.

Excerpts

…Thomas Hopper was convicted of rape and sodomy of a 13-year-old girl in the early 1990s.

The victim claims Hopper held a razor blade to her throat during the assault.

He was released from prison after serving 10 years, but was arrested just two years later and convicted of criminal confinement, battery and trespassing.

..According to officials at the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry office, Hopper’s only restriction is that he has to get permission before he’s allowed on school property.

Hopper says he is part of the church’s outreach program and makes sure members have a ride to get to the church.

…Orten says Hopper has since been saved and that those crimes happened years ago.
“So what you’re saying is, is the church is no good for forgiveness? Jesus Christ can’t save you?” he said. “So if you steal a piece of candy from a store because you were young and stupid. And make stupid mistakes. You’re still a thief even though now you’re 40-years-old?”

“Well, I think stealing candy is a little bit different than rape,” the WFIE reporter said.

“No, it’s not. No, it’s not. No, it’s not. It’s still sin. And if you get caught, there are consequences and you will pay,” he said.

When asked about Hopper’s rape and sodomy conviction, he says the victim is partly to blame.

A lot of these churches claim to be “pro family” and “pro children,” but they have very insensitive, evil views of children who are exploited by other people (usually by adults).

These deviant, legalistic Christians with skewed views about grace and forgiveness often defend the adult pedophile over and above protecting and showing concern for the child victim. I hope there’s a special place in Hell for those types of Christians.
