Teen-Raping Texas Pastor Gets life in Prison After using the Bible to Justify Abusing Women – Equally Yoked is BUNK
Far below is a link to a page about a pastor who raped girls in and from a church. Notice in the article how other church-goers who went to church with this guy described him as being “very nice” or as being a “good Christian.”
My Christian parents brought me up to think if I wanted to marry, that the best place for me to meet potential spouses would be at a church. I suppose the assumption with that is that the type of men who attend church regularly are going to be “safer” or better moral choices than the type of dude you might meet at a bar.
However, in the last few years of running this blog, I have seen (Link): so many news stories of church-going Christian men who get arrested for abuse or perversion, I now have my doubts about that.
Secondly, single women out-number single men in churches. I know that every church I’ve been to in person, I’ve been one of the few singles there. The only men in attendance and 80 years old, which would be fine if I were 80 too, but I’m not, and May December relationships (Link): make me want to barf. (I do not want to date or marry dudes who are over 5 or 10 years my age.)
I’ve done blog posts before about Pat Robertson, who has criticized women on his Christian TV show, for having married jerks, perverts, or abusers. Robertson seems to think women should be able to instantly spot if a man is a jerk, creep, loser, or abuser from the start. He’s wrong and an idiot about this.
The fact is, as this article below shows, even other adults who go to church with these kinds of deviant men are not aware of what a creep or pervert these guys are.
These are not people who are dating the guy – they are simply sitting next to him in church every week. If they cannot spot the perverts among them easily, why do Christian conservative men like Robertson think women who date men should be any better?
And again, let this be a lesson for any Christian single women who may be reading this: I know, because I was brought up being brainwashed, to think that church would be a “safe” place to meet truly nice men to date – But the sad, scary fact is that serial killers (like the (Link): BTK killer) and other perverts go to church every week and profess to believing in Jesus.
Also note that this page says this pervert has an ex-wife. This goes to show that contrary to some Christian material on dating, God does not with-hold a spouse from singles because they are sinning, are a sinner, not “godly” enough, or have fallen short in some area.
If this disgusting Piece of Shit (this church-going child rapist) was married at one time (and this news report says he was) there is no defense of the typical Christian “God demands you to clean yourself up / Be the One / Mature / Obtain Perfection / (insert other criteria here)” before- God- will- send- you- a- spouse view.
I also notice a lot of atheists, Muslims, and other Non-Christians manage to marry. Obviously, God is not demanding that all humans believe in Jesus or have Judeo-Christian morals before he permits them to marry.
Lastly, note how the ex-wife says her Sack of Shit ex-Husband used to abuse her, and when she went to her pastor for help, he didn’t help her. Of course not.
Quite frankly, I am more shocked when I hear the rare stories of pastors who help an abused wife leave her abusive spouse.
Most churches are into a false teaching called “gender complementarianism,” which teaches (among other things) that wives are to never, ever divorce a husband no matter what, and if they are being abused, their only recourse is to pray about the situation, and to submit even more to their husbands.
These “solutions” do not work, of course: an abused wife’s only true recourse is to divorce her abusive husband and start life over again without him, but most churches and pastors will not teach this nor will they help her, say, by giving her funds to leave the guy, to go to an apartment or hotel during her process of actually leaving the loser.
This article demonstrates, for the millionth time on my blog, that marriage does NOT make people more godly, loving or mature than remaining single – the pervert in this story was married previously. (A lot of Protestant, Baptist, Fundamentalists, Reformed, and other Christians, like to hold this stereotype that single adults are not as mature or godly as married couples.)
I only blog on my doubts every so often on this blog – I was a Christian for years but now wonder if any of the faith, or if aspects of it, are true or relevant to my life – but I’m certainly having some issues completely adhering to the Bible these days or seeing what sense there is in following the Bible (see for example, this last blog post I wrote: (Link): On Not Filtering Every Choice Through the Bible).
In this news story, it says this pervert used the Bible to justify and rationalize his rape to his victims.
What is the point in having a book that is supposedly inerrant and written by God if some evil people use it to justify their evil?
What is the point in having a book that is supposedly inerrant and written by God if so many people cannot agree on what it teaches?
(Different Christians and Christian denominations at times hold totally conflicting views on the same topics and all use the Bible to defend their views, and others use the Bible to justify their crimes and immoral behavior.)
Anyway, when I see news stories like this one, all I can think of is that dating or marrying a nice atheist (or whatever other type of Non-Christian, provided the individual is an upstanding, non-abusive person) would be preferable to dating or marrying a Jesus-professing, church-going, Bible- reading “Christian” guy who thinks it’s okay to rape girls, and use the Bible to defend that perversion.

Excerpts:
A volunteer youth pastor was sentenced to life in prison in Texas this week for sexually assaulting multiple teens at his church, reports the (Link): Houston Chronicle.
Dell Ivan Godkin, 48, was found guilty of sexually abusing one victim beginning when she was 13-years-old, and continuing until she was 17, by telling her God approved of what they were doing.
“He would say lots of things about God being OK with it,” explained prosecutor Monica Cooper, adding that Godkin would cite passages from the Bible to explain the roles of men and women to his victims.
In the case of the 13-year-old, he promised to stop molesting her by making a “deal” before she turned 17 on the condition she tell no one what had happened.
According to the prosecutor, members of the church were stunned by Godkin’s actions and described him as a good Christian.
