Stuff Muslim Culture Likes
(This post may be edited at a future time to add more links or other information.)
Groups such as left-leaning “Stuff Christian Culture Likes” (please see this previous post about “SCCL” if you’d like more background about them) enjoy regularly listing the shortcomings of Christians, including sexism as taught or practiced among some Christians. I too detail some of those examples on my blog and have in the past.
Strangely, though, like so many other liberals, those at SCCL are extremely hypocritical in that they turn a blind eye to the same sexism or other shortcomings as committed by some Muslims under Islam, and act as though Muslims are victims who need special protection.

A leading Pakistani cleric has provided male followers with a step-by-step guide to controlling their women – with a “light beating” suggested at the end of the process for problem wives.
Muhammad Khan Sherani, chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology in Pakistan, offered a weirdly archaic model to men because: “When we draft a bill concerning women we have to consider all possible solutions.”
Sherani is proposing a law that would allow husbands to beat their wives. The mullah originally made these statements last month before he doubled down and affirmed them to the BBC in an interview that aired on Thursday:
“If a woman does not fulfill her responsibilities in marriage first you advise her.”
“If that doesn’t work then you consult her relatives.”
“If that doesn’t work then you desert her in bed and if all of this doesn’t work then light beating is allowed.”

Mohammad Kemal Mustafa, who as Imam of Fuengirola is head of one of the country’s biggest Muslim communities, has aroused furious criticism by writing a book that describes how to beat a woman without leaving tell-tale marks. He recommends Muslim husbands use a rod that is fine and light, “so as not to leave scars or bruises on the body”.

…The main costs that apostates face come from family members and others in the community. A 2013 PEW study found widespread support for the death penalty for leaving Islam in many countries.
In several of them, including Egypt, Jordan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, the majority of Muslims held this view.
In the Palestinian Territories, 89 percent of those surveyed thought Sharia ought to be the law of the land, and within that number, 66 percent supported the death penalty for apostasy.
Given the challenges associated with leaving the religion, Sarah Haider regrets that people like her do not receive more support from the left, as she detailed in a 2015 address given to the American Humanist Association:
I always expected feeling unwelcome from Muslim audiences, but I did not anticipate an equal amount of hostility from my allies on the left.
For example, when I first published a piece fact-checking Reza Aslan, who is a prominent Muslim scholar, on his dismissal of female genital mutilation as only an African problem, not a Muslim one, I got many responses from people unhappy with what I wrote, almost all of whom questioned my motives rather than addressing my claims.
To my surprise, most of my critics were not Muslims. Rather they identified as liberals and sometimes even atheists.
Some darkly alluded to my “agenda” and others claimed that as a former Muslim, there was no way I could be trusted with fair criticism. Now remember, I published a fact-check.
It seems to me that it would be easy to verify my claims, fact-check the fact-check, so to speak. But instead, Muslims and some people on the left preferred . . . to throw around suspicions about my character and my intentions.

Nice attack: truck driver named as France mourns 84 killed in Bastille Day atrocity – as it happened
Excerpts:
Eighty-four people, including 10 children, were killed on Thursday night when a 31-year-old French Tunisian attacked Bastille Day celebrations in Nice by speeding a truck for 2km (about 1 mile) along the crowded promenade.
Two hundred and two people were injured and 52 people remain in critical care, 25 on life support, French prosecutor François Molins said. Three or four children are in extremely critical condition, a doctor told the Guardian. The dead include two Americans, a Russian student and a motorcyclist who tried to board the truck to stop the driver.
President François Hollande called the attack “terrorism of opportunity” at a 4am address, and announced three days of mourning and an extended national emergency. He now faces political backlash over the country’s struggling security services.
The attacker was named as Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a chauffeur and deliveryman who was born in Tunis but had lived in France for years. Three police officers exchanged fire with Lahouaiej-Bouhlel during his rampage, and found him dead in the passenger seat of the truck, Molins said.
Terror Attack Kills Scores in Nice, France Hollande Says
Scores of people were killed Thursday night when a large truck plowed through a Bastille Day crowd in Nice, France, in what President Francois Hollande called a terror attack.
The death toll grew through the night, with Hollande saying 77 people died. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said 80 people were killed.
The driver first shot a gun into the crowd before driving two kilometers along the Promenade des Anglais, the main street in Nice, mowing down people who had gathered to watch fireworks, regional President Christian Estrosi told CNN affiliate BFM-TV.
“We cannot deny that it was a terror attack,” Hollande said in a national television address. He added that the choice of the day — Bastille Day, when France celebrates its post-French Revolution republic — was particularly poignant.

From 1 July, Lahouaiej-Bouhlel made more or less daily internet searches for verses of the Koran and “nasheeds” – jihadist propaganda chants. He also researched the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
…In the eight days leading up to the attack, he grew a beard and told friends this was for “religious reasons”.
He also told them he did not understand why IS could not hold territory and showed them a video of a beheading on his mobile phone. In response to their shock, he said he was “used to it”.

Paris Attack: Champs Elysees Terror Attacker ‘Had A Note Expressing Support for ISIS’
A note expressing support for Isis has been found near the body of a gunman who shot a police officer dead in the centre of Paris.
Sources within the investigation told news agencies of the discovery as a probe continued into the chief suspect, a 39-year-old Frenchman who was the subject of a previous terror investigation.
Police also found a pump-action shotgun and knives in his car, showing the attacker was armed for an extended assault.
Isis swiftly claimed responsibility for the attack, giving the perpetrator a war name indicating he had links in Belgium and hailing him as a “fighter of the Islamic State”.

ATTACK AT THE LOUVRE: Machete-wielding man shouting ‘Allahu akbar’ stopped by soldier, police say
A machete-wielding man shouting “Allahu akbar” three times attacked four French soldiers Friday inside a shopping mall beneath the Louvre Museum in Paris before one soldier shot him, investigators said.
French President Francois Hollande said it was “no doubt” an act of terror.
Prosecutor Francois Molins said the attacker came to Paris on a tourist visa on Jan. 26 and bought two military machetes at a gun store in the city two days later.
…Anti-terrorism prosecutors took charge of the investigation. There were no immediate details about the identity of the attacker. “Allahu akbar” is the Arabic phrase for “God is great.”

The protests erupted just over a week after 12 people were killed in an attack by Islamist gunmen on the magazine’s Paris offices. The attack set off a global debate that is still smoldering over freedom of speech and respect for religious beliefs.

Suicide bomber Salman Abedi is believed to have travelled to Syria and become radicalised before returning to the UK to cause carnage at a gig in the city where he was born.
The son of Libyan parents, who reportedly fled their native country and sought refuge in the UK, he is thought to have come back to Britain from Libya just days before the massacre.
Born and raised in Manchester in 1994, Abedi, the second youngest of four children, grew up in a Muslim household but matured into a university dropout with an appetite for bloodshed.
His parents, mother Samia Tabbal and father Ramadan Abedi, a security officer, are Libyan-born refugees who fled to the UK to escape Gaddafi. It is thought they returned in 2011 following Gaddafi’s overthrow.

Prague, 6 November 2005 (RFE/RL) — The French Interior Ministry says two schools were set on fire in the Paris suburb of Essonne overnight and more than 1,000 cars were torched by angry youth across the country as rioting broke out for the 10th night in a row.
…Last night marked a new peak for the spread of rioting as hundreds of cars were set ablaze in the north, east and south of the country. Authorities arrested more than 200 rioters across the country.
The violence comes despite an increased police presence in Paris suburbs and other poor suburban neighborhoods. It is widely seen as an expression of pent-up anger by young people — many of whom are Muslims of North African and black African origin — about police treatment, racism, unemployment, and their marginal place in French society.

Police said the 20-year-old Iraqi refugee, who has not been named, assaulted his victim in a toilet cubicle at the Theresienbad swimming pool in Vienna on 2 December last year.
The child reported the rape to a lifeguard and his attacker was arrested at the scene, reportedly telling officers in initial interviews that he was experiencing a “sexual emergency” after not having sex in four months.

This is when some shout ‘racism,’ but here are the facts: calculations based on convictions show that a British Muslim male is 170 times more likely to be a part of sex grooming gang than a non-Muslim. And there are no recorded instances of non-Muslims doing this to Muslim girls as part of a criminal enterprise. In one local jurisdiction, it was estimated that six out of seven Muslim males either knew about, or were part of, a grooming gang.

Rampant sexual abuse of children has long been a problem in Afghanistan, particularly among armed commanders who dominate much of the rural landscape and can bully the population.
The practice is called bacha bazi, literally “boy play,” and American soldiers and Marines have been instructed not to intervene — in some cases, not even when their Afghan allies have abused boys on military bases, according to interviews and court records.

A 2014 study by Hagar International found that on average one in 10 Afghan boys they interviewed had experienced some form of human trafficking, including bacha bazi.
Sara Shinkfield, country director of Hagar Afghanistan, called the study “a striking reminder that boys in Afghanistan are even more at risk than girls for trafficking.”
….Most boys enter into bacha bazi because of extreme poverty. Thebacha baz will often pay to sustain a family for years in return for “ownership” of a boy.

While not specifically referring to the rapes, brutal attacks on four women for which a group of young Lebanese men received long jail sentences, Sheik Hilali said there were women who “sway suggestively” and wore make-up and immodest dress … “and then you get a judge without mercy (rahma) and gives you 65 years”.
“But the problem, but the problem all began with who?” he asked.
The leader of the 2000 rapes in Sydney’s southwest, Bilal Skaf, a Muslim, was initially sentenced to 55 years’ jail, but later had the sentence reduced on appeal.

Gang Rape Victim Murdered in Honor Killing
A victim of gang rape was murdered by her family in an honor killing because they felt that she was “unclean.”
The victim is known as Rokstan M., 20, found in a shallow grave in Dessau, Germany with multiple stab wounds. She was raped by three men in Syria two years ago.
Rokstan had fled to Germany and was working as a translator for refugees. But it was clear that she was afraid for her life, based on a message from her WhatsApp account that came right before she was murdered.
An honor killing is where Islamic fundamentalists believe that a member of their family has dishonored them, and that the only way to restore the honor to the family is to murder the family member. Other gruesome examples of honor killings include a man setting his wife on fire in front his young children because he thought she was unfaithful, a man killing his four-year-old daughter for forgetting to cover her head while eating and a family stoning a pregnant 25-year-old pregnant woman for marrying a man without their consent.
The United Nations estimates that 5,000 honor killings occur every year.
The reason for these honor killings is rooted in Islamic lore. Reliance of the Traveller is a manual of Sharia law written by Taha Jabir al-`Alwani, who is greatly admired in Islamic circles.

If accused of adultery, they may have the means to either hire lawyers or flee. But those options are frequently closed to women.

But in Jordan, enrolment is excellent at 86 percent – however, girls drop out in secondary school because of early marriage.
Jordanian society is very conservative with tribal traditions and many girls are pressurised into marrying young. Some still continue their education after marriage – but many of them do not, especially if they have children.
Sociologists in the country – such as Dr Nazih Hamdi – pointed out to me that a girl’s role in Jordanian society is heavily stereotyped, and this is reflected in the education students receive. The system tends to make very strong statements in school books to children, such as “my father is working and my mother is cooking”.
At one Jordanian girl’s secondary school, 80% of the girls I spoke to said that the first role of the woman was to stay at home and bring up her children.

As a result of this bogus allegation, Nike would build “three playgrounds for Islamic communities in the United States” as part of the repentance package.

That means a woman who walks the street in a short skirt is not only breaking Islam law. But it also means that what befalls her is probably going to be seen as just due by a good percentage of the Muslim public.
Yet this is the religion that liberals love — that even the feminist-minded among the liberal crowds rush to defend as no different from any other.
It’s a deception to think that way, to believe Islam is just another religion, just another expression of faith. Islam is a violent dogma with the strictest of gender roles that set men at the top, farming animals second, land and housing third, and then, somewhere after pets and possessions, women. Which actually, in Islam, fall under the category of possession.

The response to the Orlando massacre is a prime example. Remember when the New York Times editorialized that Republicans were partly to blame for an attack by an Islamic jihadist?
Even today, the Washington Post’s story highlighting memorial services for the victims characterizes Orlando as just another city “upended by gun violence.”
The New York Times editorialized again, this time calling for more gun control — despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of terror deaths (in America and the West) come through planes, cars, trucks, and bombs, not firearms.
The result is that millions of Americans now believe that someone (or something) else shares blame with terrorists for terrorist actions. Mateen couldn’t kill anyone if it weren’t for those gun nuts. Fundamentalist Christians desensitized Americans to homophobia.
How can we have the national confidence to strike at Muslim terrorists if too many Americans believe we should stop them by changing America? Indeed, that belief was part and parcel of the Obama-era “legitimate grievances” theory of Islamic terror. Jihadists are bad, yes, but we can blunt their effectiveness by addressing the “legitimate grievances” they have against the West.
Yet this theory ignores their actual core grievance, that we don’t bend the knee to their version of the Islamic faith. When “convert or die” is the message, there is no compromise. There is no appeasement.
