Father, Son of Texas Baptist Church Both Arrested for Raping Teens, Sexual Assault of Children – So Much for Marriage Making People More Mature and Godly

But I thought that the nuclear family was supposed to erase all sin, including rape and child abuse, and that Male Headship under Complementarianism and Parenthood and Marriage made people more godly, loving, and ethical, as some Christians teach?

Here we have an another example where none of that is true (my Twitter friend ymmarta passed this along to me):

And why should any single Christian woman who desires marriage bother sticking to the “Equally Yoked” rule when so many Christian men – even ones who work in and for churches!! – are perverts? It makes no sense.

And why do so many Christians keep telling singles who desire marriage that they won’t get a spouse until they become more spiritual, more mature, more holy, or more “whatever?” If God permitted these teen-raping perverts to have a spouse, why not a law-abiding single adult?

I may have my share of flaws like any other person, but raping kids is not one of mine, thank you very much.

But to all those Christians out there who write dating advice books: you’d have me believe that a child rapist is more deserving of a spouse than I am?

If your views are correct, that God only sends a spouse to someone once they “clean themselves up” and become more holy, more pure, or more “whatever,” how do you explain deviants who are rapists who are married, but nice, ethical non-raping adults such as myself remain single?

Excerpts from the article:

Both a father and a son employed by a Baptist church in Dallas, Texas, were arrested and charged with sexual assault of children for having inappropriate relationships with teenage girls.

According to (Link): The Star-Telegram, 65-year-old Larry Allen Winn, the bus director of Open Door Baptist Church in Mesquite, along with his son, Steven Aaron Winn, an assistant youth pastor, are facing numerous rape charges, after having been booked at Dallas County Jail.

Mesquite police first received a report of a possible sexual relationship between an adult man and a teenage girl, (Link): NBC 5 News reported.

An investigation led to Steven Winn, 33, being accused of having such a relationship with a teenage girl who attended the church’s Christian school over the course of 14 months.

Dallas News said that the teenage girl was 15 years old at the time of the assault.

…A church spokesman explained that the younger Winn had been a volunteer, and not an employee at the church, but gave no further comment.

…Police have warned that due to Larry Winn’s level of access to children, there are fears that there may be additional victims. Authorities are asking people with information on criminal offenses involving Larry Winn to contact the Mesquite Police Department at 972-285-6336.

Open Door Baptist Church, pastored by Robert A. Ross, does not list information about Winn on its website.

It saw controversy in 2011 as well, when its senior pastor, Matt Jarrell, was arrested on rape charges in West Virginia, and later (Link): hanged himself in jail.

The suicide left church members shocked.

“He seemed like he really loved his wife, Ginny,” said 57-year-old Donna Woodson. “So I’m just shocked to hear any of this stuff. I’m not even sure to believe it.”
