…. The symbol of “Pride” is the Pride Flag itself, multi-colored with horizontal stripes; or at least it was.
Over the last few years, the Pride Flag has seen multiple revisions, each time adding more colors and symbols — and it’s gotten ridiculous.
It is now the true product of a flag-by-committee, the modern intersectional movement in a single frame: It is ugly and scatterbrained and opens the door for any and all oppressed groups to demand inclusion and prioritization.
Charges of ugliness may seem unkind, but this newest pride flag can only be described as a sin against design and its observers. Left-wing writers will admit as much.
The inclusion of black and brown stripes to represent “Blackness,” and light blue and pink stripes to represent transgenderism, all bundled into a rightward-pointing chevron on the left side of the flag makes for a clash of colors and visual noise that is deeply off-putting.
… Everyone must be represented for fear that his or her specific oppression is not considered as serious as some other groups’ difficulties.
You may have noticed this last February when sexual politics were dragged into Black History Month and how now in June there are BLM pride marches.
It has gotten to the point where there is such a cacophony of representation that it is difficult to suss out who or what is being elevated.
With this latest iteration, the flag is now messaging about sex, gender, and racial politics. The thinking goes, you cannot be pro-gay without being pro-BLM without being pro-transgender. Intersectionality demands the inclusion of all at the expense of the individual cause. That’s a heck of a lot of ideology for one standard to bear.
Because so many movements have been added to the flag, supporters will find it difficult to argue that other sexual/racial minority groups should not be added. …
…I do not envy the activist Left. The Pride Flag is but one example of the ground ever shifting beneath their feet, with progressive norms one day being regressive the next.

The flag has become an unparalleled monstrosity and has gone way beyond parody. My friend Simon Fanshawe says that the latest tongue-twisting acronym of LGBTQQIAAAPPO2S, all supposedly represented in the flag, is more like an unbreakable WIFI password.
But let me attempt to explain what at least some of its colours represents. The first thing to recognise is that there are flags within flags. The bisexual flag is made up of pink, purple and blue. Pink represents same-sex attraction, blue the attraction to various genders, and purple is attraction regardless of sex or gender. In other words: completely meaningless.
Then there are the pansexuals who merited their own flag in 2010. They were very keen on distinguishing between themselves and bisexual people. The pansexual flag is, unless I got it wrong, pink, yellow and blue. The yellow, in case you were wondering, is representative of those who identify as agender.
… And we must not forget the asexuals, whose flag is black, grey, white and purple. There is a separate genderfluid one in pink, blue, purple, black and white (black represents a lack of gender, just in case you were wondering). There is also an ‘ally’ pride flag which, represents heterosexual/cis gender individuals who actively support the LGBTYWCAESPPQWWIKJBXR+ community.

A growing rift has emerged among some in the LGBTQ+ community over the upstart “Progress Flag” — ripping it as “ugly,” “dumb” and a “monstrosity.”
The traditional “Rainbow Pride” banner incorporates red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet displayed along six horizontal bars.
The 2018 “Progress Flag,” — a creation of artist Daniel Quasar, added a curious mosaic of new colors — black, brown, pink, light blue and white, plastered into a triangle overlapping the original pride design.
The black and brown bars are said to reflect “marginalized LBGT communities of color, community members lost to HIV/AIDS, and those currently living with AIDS,” according to an info page from Northwestern University’s office of equity.
The flag also includes white, pink and light blue stripes to reflect the transgender community.
“It’s an aesthetic and design monstrosity that no gay man should approve of. It’s a disgrace to our sexual orientation,” thundered Andrew Sullivan, a longtime gay cultural critic who now runs a popular substack.
“The designers of this flag do not seem to understand that the rainbow symbol was always a METAPHOR,” he told the Post. “A rainbow already contains every color! We were not previously fighting for green gays and purple gays and yellow gays, and forgot to include brown gays and black gays. So it’s dumb as well as ugly.”
… “Who voted for this flag? Did anyone ask gays and lesbians and trans people before it was imposed on all of us? Was there a poll? Nope – just far-left activists corralling all of us into their ideological bubble,” Sullivan, 58, groused.
…One man, a longtime Hollywood art director, said the new flag is “disgusting” but he would be “blacklisted” in his industry if he ever aired his concerns.
“I hate it,” he said. ‘It’s definitely distanced me from the traditional gay culture that we’re used to. It’s been hijacked by people looking to satisfy these minority groups.”
