Conservatives In Civil War Over Whether or Not Porn Stars Can Be Considered Conservative or Should Be Permitted To Attend Conservative Events

Conservatives In Civil War Over Whether or Not Porn Stars Can Be Considered Conservative or Should Be Permitted To Attend Conservative Events

I am a conservative, I don’t support pornography, but I’m not sure if I agree with other conservatives who have been saying lately that pornography movie actors cannot be conservatives.

It’s my understanding that some conservative type symposium sponsored by TPUSA (Turning Point U.S.A.), aimed at high school and college aged students, recently invited or permitted to attend, a porn star named Brandi Love, in Florida.

Ever since, conservatives have been feuding about this.

Some are saying, yes, porn actors should be permitted into the “conservative tent,” (or into conservative functions) while other say, “no way!”

My opinion is that yes, even porn stars can be politically conservative if they like, but I’m not sure it’s wise for one to actually attend an event for college students – and some said that while she was in attendance, she wore some kind of name badge with her “porn name” on it, to advertise her porn site or something(?)

I don’t think conservatives should defend porn, because porn is ultimately harmful to society and to women in particular – defending sexual hedonism and perversion is the province of liberals and leftists.

I see some overlap here and among the Christian faith, because a lot of Christians and churches used to defend the practice of remaining a virgin until marriage  (as they should), but in years past, they have begun defending sexual impurity and saying sex outside of marriage is no big deal.

Some churches, when having a “pro sexual purity” or “pro celibacy” event during church hours have been known to hire known fornicators – I’ve done posts about this subject in the past.

The Christians will never ask or hire an honest- to god- adult virgin to give a “sexual purity” lecture, no, they’d rather hire a person who FAILED at sexual purity.

It would be like hiring a food-addicted, 600 pound adult to give a “pro healthy eating” lecture at a church. It makes no sense.

Cancel Culture?

Some people are trying to market this move – of TPUSA of revoking her day pass – as cancel culture, but I’m not so sure.

If conservatives were trying to “cancel” Brandi Love, they’d be trying to ruin her entire career; there would be an on-going Twitter campaign by conservatives to “dog pile” and harass her on Twitter (which is not going on, AFAIK).

(If conservatives are harassing her, they should knock it off. I did read that some conservatives are defending her on Twitter.)

So far as I am aware, there are no conservatives writing to any of Love’s employers and demanding that she be fired and never allowed to work ever again – that would be the sort of thing that “cancel culture” leftists do.

Also note Love was not banned from the political conference due to differences in political opinion – the left always cancels people over political dissent. This banning was more over morals, not over a difference in view points.

Here is some material about this conservative feud:

(Link): About Porn Stars and Conservatism

Excerpts:

by B. Morse

…Now, the conversation has begun on the internet (read flame war) about where pornography fits into the big tent of conservatism after a right-leaning porn star, Brandi Love, showed up and was subsequently booted from a Turning Point USA event due to her profession.

This sparked a debate about whether or not Love can actually be a “conservative” and be a porn star with many of conservatism’s big names saying she can and others saying she can’t.

Love shouldn’t have been at a conference for teenagers and I’m not entirely sure why she thought it was a good idea to be there. I’m a firm believer that what adults do is their business, but these are kids, many of which are impressionable.

There’s no way her career wouldn’t have come up in conversation, and when it did, what was she going to say to these kids about it?

We get really angry at the left for introducing sex, and sexualizing, younger generations, but how many young men and women would have gotten into conversations with Love about her profession, been charmed by her, and as such been introduced to pornography?

How many young men would have become hooked on it? How many young women would look forward to starting an OnlyFans? How is that any different on principle?

…But saying they aren’t conservative doesn’t stop them from being conservative. The honest truth is that you and Brandi Love agree on a whole bunch of topics, you just don’t agree on this one.

You’re both probably going to vote for a lot of the same people based on a lot of shared principles, many of which have nothing to do with the one you both disagree on.

You may say “conservatism and Christian principles are one and the same” but the truth is that there are a lot of people in the Conservative moment that aren’t Christian and I’m not sure it makes them less conservative.  …

And I’m not entirely sure it’s wise for the right to become so exclusionary to the point where we begin immediately tossing people to the curb for not meeting certain definitions of “conservatism.”…

by Josh Kovensky

It started innocently enough.

Testing the Trumpified GOP’s newfound love for freedom of speech, a right-wing porn star planned to attend the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA’s annual Student Action Summit 2021, which began this weekend in Tampa, Florida.

The conservative movement can be a big tent – a tent big enough to contain both Brandi Love, who purchased an “adult VIP ticket,” and groypers, the white supremacist followers of Nick Fuentes.

But things went haywire when Love arrived at the event, as the event’s white nationalist contingent approached her while more mainstream conservative voices fretted over what harms her presence might inflict on children at the event.

Love, a self-branded “conservative porn star” who is a contributor to The Federalist, found herself besieged by the combination of white supremacists and moralizers, leading to her eventual expulsion from the event while triggering a debate on the right over whether the conservative movement should embrace Love.

Jaden McNeil, a Fuentes devotee and self-described “conservative gamer,” wrote on Telegram on Saturday that “There are 13 year old kids at this conference and TPUSA has pornstars as VIPs.”

“Imagine sending your kids to this conference thinking they’re gonna learn about Christian Conservative values and they come home w photos w pornstars,” he added.

Fuentes himself complained that TPUSA had banned him from attending, “but allows in a literal porn star.”

…Later that night, TPUSA cancelled Love’s invitation to the conference and refunded her ticket.

…Andrew Kolvet, a Turning Points USA spokesman, told TPM in a statement that the group was not trying to be “unkind or rude” to Love, but was rather concerned by her social media posts.

“A few concerned parents rightly alerted us to the extremely pornographic nature of her social media posts, and event leadership immediately took the appropriate steps in keeping with the best interest of the minors present at the event,” Kolvet said in the statement, adding that the non-profit has a policy of not involving itself with those who “publish sexually explicit and pornographic content at student events.”

Kolvet added that any controversy “is purely contrived.”

“No one is attacking her right to own her own platform or business, it just shouldn’t be around kids,” Kolvet added.

Love’s expulsion triggered right-on-right arguments between those who would prefer Love’s brand of conservatism to that on offer from the likes of Erik Erickson, and those who can’t stand to imagine delicate conservative youth being exposed to Love.

Excerpts:

by Dominic Pino, July 19, 2021

…A similar dynamic seems to be at play in the uproar on conservative Twitter over Turning Point USA’s (TPUSA) decision to ban porn star Brandi Love from attending its Student Action Summit in Tampa over the weekend.

Some conservatives saw it as cancel culture, and others found it prudish or small-minded to exclude her.

Anthony Leonardi reported on Twitter that she “was kicked out of the SAS conference as soon as the organization discovered she was a porn star, and that her VIP pass was ‘totally revoked.’”

TPUSA spokesman Andrew Kolvet told Newsweek that “Ms. Love purchased an adult VIP ticket” and that “she was not invited nor was her attendance somehow requested by the organization.”

Kolvet’s explanation to Newsweek was that “it is simply not appropriate for a porn star to be actively posting images at an event with 15- and 16-year-olds present in conjunction with graphic pornography.” (Brandi Love’s social media is full of graphic nudity.)

“TPUSA makes no apology for this, a position which should not be controversial, especially when minors are involved. Parents deserve this type of assurance and TPUSA intends on giving them that confidence,” Kolvet said.

Kolvet’s words are especially important because TPUSA has a history with situations that parents would be uncomfortable with. In 2018, Philip Wegmann wrote about the 2017 Student Action Summit for the Washington Examiner:

Witnesses describe a scene reminiscent of “Animal House.” Kids weren’t just drinking in their hotel rooms. They say some wandered drunk through the lobby. Students weren’t just roughhousing by the hotel pool. They say some were wasted in the water. And while many of the young conservatives proved a temperate bunch, the vomit in the bushes served as visceral testament to the appetites of the rest.

Wegmann also wrote, “Interviews with five female students and four former staffers paint a picture of an ambitious student group that is ill-equipped to deal with underage drinking and serious, repeated allegations of sexual harassment and even sexual assault.”

So TPUSA has plenty of institutional self-interest to prohibit porn stars from attending its conferences. It has struggled with allegations of fostering a poor environment in the past, and it needs parents to be willing to send their kids to its events that are targeted, in part, to high schoolers.

The larger question of political organization, however, transcends TPUSA’s concerns. Whether the conservative movement should ally itself with anyone in favor of smaller government, as Brandi Love claims to be, is much like the question of whether Rothbard’s libertarian movement should have allied itself with anyone who opposes the Fed, no matter what else they may believe. Promoting porn stars within the movement would be defective judgment.

This isn’t an ideological purity test. People can have a wide range of views on what the government should do (or not do) about pornography while still being part of the conservative movement.

Conservatives are at their best when they invite a range of views and debate it among themselves (we have a lot of fun here on the Corner doing just that).

There’s a difference between debating about pornography and promoting pornography, just as there is a difference between debating about prostitution and promoting prostitution or debating about drugs and promoting drugs.

The view that being a porn star is just another career choice is from the secular Left, who also think prostitution is just another career choice. They’re wrong about that, and conservatives need to stand firm against them.

By ZACHARY PETRIZZO

Turning Point USA, the right-wing youth student organization led by Charlie Kirk, found itself in an unusual controversy Saturday night after “conservative pornstar” Brandi Love was allowed into a Florida conference and welcomed as an “Adult VIP,” sparking backlash.

The drama began early in the night when the adult entertainer’s presence in Tampa was first discovered by a follower of white nationalist Nicholas Fuentes and former Kansas State student Jaden McNeil, who wrote on Telegram, “Turning Point USA has a pornstar as a VIP at their Student Action Summit.”

“Imagine sending your kids to this conference think they’re gonna learn about Christian Conservative values, and they come home with photos with pornstars,” he added, attaching a photo of Love snapping a picture with a TPUSA attendee.

After a while, more mainstream conservative figures and student activists began to join in as well, calling out Turning Point USA for the alleged misstep.

“A new low for TPUSA. Zero class left in that organization,” Liberty University student Carley Dehnisch said.

Right-wing writer Alec Sears penned, “Absolutely fucking speechless that ‘conservative’ org TPUSA has invited an actual porn star to a conference that minors attend.”

Young America’s Foundation (YAF) intern Jacob Porwisz wrote, “Great job TPUSA, for inviting a porn star to their conference that features kids under 17; very conservative of them!”

…However, Love wasn’t buying it and said the Republican Party is “broken” due to TPUSA officials giving her the boot. “Can’t make this shit up lol!! I just watched Charlie Kirk, Dan Bongino, Rick Scott, Kat Timpf, speak about freedom, censorship, how inclusive the ‘movement’ is,” she stated. “And then they had me thrown out of the Turning Point USA conference. The Republican Party is broken.”

While many right-wingers cheered the ban on Love, an unlikely opposition force led by Federalist co-founder and frequent Fox News guest Ben Domenech also emerged:
“I’m disappointed that TPUSA kicked out Brandi Love for no reason whatsoever. She’s a Florida conservative businesswoman who loves America,” he tweeted. “The right has an opportunity to be the big tent party. Don’t be a bunch of prudes.”

…Turning Point USA is no stranger to such type of controversy, as back in December of 2020, the organization came under fire during their Student Action Conference in Palm Beach, Florida, over Bang Energy’s “Bang Girls” blasting free cash into the crowd of college and high school students.

Matt Walsh may be on to something here (he’s one of those conservatives that I at times disagree with, depending on the topic – on this topic, I may agree):
