The U.S. Secret Service has released a study detailing the growing terrorism threat by so-called involuntary celibate men.
Attacks inspired by the “incel movement” have left dozens dead in the U.S. and Canada since 2014, according to CBS News.
The report said the term “‘incel’ is often used to describe men who feel unable to obtain romantic or sexual relationships with women, to which they feel entitled,” CNN reported.

US Secret Service has released a report which says that men who identify as ‘involuntary celibates’ or ‘incels’ due to inability to form meaningful relationships with women constitute a rising threat to society.
The report, prepared by National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) was released on Tuesday. It also dwells on some common themes found in the history of men who resorted to violence against women.
…The report by US secret service said that though Beierle did not resort to any extremist ideology, his behaviour resembled those who identified as ‘incels’ or ‘anti-feminist’.

The U.S. Secret Service has warned the public of the growing domestic threat posed by misogynistic extremist or incels – involuntary celibates, reporting that many recent mass shooters have displayed the alarming trait.
Often times, well-documented hatred toward women and warning signs are dismissed because relatives, friends and law enforcement ‘don’t look at the big picture,’ officials said.
The report zeroed in on 40-year-old Scott Paul Beierle, who idolized Ted Bundy and was banned from bars several times for groping females, before killing two women and injuring six others at Hot Yoga studio in Tallahassee.
On the night of November 2, 2018, Beierle entered the studio with a duffel bag, pulled out a gun and started firing, shooting dead 21-year-old Florida State University student Maura Blinkey and Dr. Nancy Van Vessem, 61.
He then turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.
‘If I can’t find one decent female to live with, I will find many indecent females to die with. If they are intent on denying me life, I will have no choice, but to deny them life,’ Beierle had written on his disturbing website ‘F*** ‘Em All.’
Beierle’s website had been flagged to federal law enforcement by a friend’s wife, but the report was deemed non-actionable as ‘even violently themed lyrics are protected speech…unless they target a particular person,’ an official said.
Although Beierle didn’t have a specific label, he identified with the movement of men who call themselves anti-feminists, male supremacists or incels.
Incel-related attacks have claimed between 40 to 50 lives, The Guardian reported.
[Photo caption on page reads: Scott Paul Beierle, 40, had idolized Ted Bundy and Hitler, was banned from bars several times for harassing women, and believed ‘aggression is a male trait and should not be criminalized,’ before opening fire at Hot Yoga studio in Tallahassee in 2018]
…Beierle created clips in 2014 that labeled females ‘sluts’ and ‘whores.’
He even spoke about the ‘treachery’ of young girls who attended his high school – some as far back as the eight grade.
In one video he says: ‘There are whores in – not only every city, not only every town, but every village.’
On his website, Beierle often spoke despicably of women, blaming them for not accepting his sexual advances.
‘Their arrogance, indifference and treachery will finally be exposed, and punished. If I can’t make a living, I will make a killing…I will be successful with females: if I can’t be successful at being positive, I will be successful at being negative,’ he wrote.
…Before the attack, he researched yoga-related pornography and made several calls to the studio, but staff did not think they were concerning at the time.
Beierle then bought a Glock pistol at a pawn shop and shot six people.
The two victims who were shot dead are Nancy Van Vessem and Maura Binkley 21.
Beierle was arrested in 2012 for misdemeanor battery for grabbing two women’s butt on Florida State University’s campus, according to Leon County court records.
The incident occurred at the Suwanee Room, which is a popular dining hall on the campus.
One of the victim’s claimed that he had touched her on three separate occasions in a 30-day period.
In 2016, Beierle was arrested for a batter charge after he allegedly slapped and grabbed a woman’s rear end and at a nearby swimming pool.
Prosecutors dropped both charges in those cases.
The deep look at the killings, conducted by the Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center, was an effort to study how contempt for women can radicalize men and spark violent and deadly behavior.
The center is tasked with researching, training and sharing information on the prevention of targeted violence.
‘The hatred of women requires increased attention from everyone,’ said Steve Driscoll, a research specialist at the center.
The research is aimed at helping to train law enforcement, school and community officials to better identify potential attackers and stop them before they strike.
The case study stressed the importance of speaking up when someone’s behavior is concerning and the need for community stakeholders – including residents, school officials, law enforcers and business owners – to have a role in helping to prevent violence.
‘Over and over again, we see a tolerance for these objectively concerning behaviors,’ said Dr Lina Alathari, chief of the National Threat Assessment Center.
‘The goal is to ID and assess behavior and to intervene. It is not about prosecution or criminalizing.’
Alathari said the Florida yoga class shooting case study, which drew on publicly available documents and details, will be used to train communities on how to better spot warning signs and intervene before violence happens.
A superficial look into Beierle’s history shows a man who ‘pursued higher education, served in the military, and held highly regarded professional positions of trust,’ the study said.

What are INCELS – Involuntary celibates?
In the late 1990s, a Canadian woman created an Internet peer support forum for people who wanted a sexual relationship but were unable to find a partner. It was intended to be a safe place to seek support for those who felt sexually deprived due to social awkwardness, marginalization, or mental illness.
This forum, along with similar communities, was intended to be positive and focused on providing support for overcoming one’s ‘incel’ status.
Today, the term ‘incel’ is often used to describe men who feel unable to obtain romantic or sexual relationships with women, to which they feel entitled.
The term is used to describe one online subculture that exists within the ‘manosphere’ – a network of blogs and forums frequented by groups including incels, men’s rights activists (MRAs), Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW), and pickup artists (PUAs).
Although these groups are known to promote male-dominant views, some members express extreme ideologies involving anti-woman hate, sexual objectification of women, and calls for violence targeting women.
