Chicago Church ‘Fasting from Whiteness’ During Lent by Ditching Hymns Written by White People
The following news story is an example in how far left liberals, Democrats, progressives (Christian and non) have ramped up the Culture Wars in the last few years.
It’s not just mainstream evangelicals, conservative Christians, or Republicans who are fighting the Culture Wars now – those groups, the conservatives, evangelicals, Republicans, etc, are now reacting to the Culture War issues STARTED BY, and maintained by, liberals and progressives.
Nothing says love and tolerance like shaming White people for being White – which is what progressives do constantly. (I’m being sarcastic. It’s odious and gross to shame White people for being White.)
If you want to build up Black people or (Link): Black culture by incorporating more Black-written hymns at your church, that is fine by me, but do not so so at the expense of other groups, such as Whites.
That anti-Racism garbage, where CRT promoters believe that being “anti-racism” (Link): means discriminating against White people (and doing so indefinitely!), is wrong.
Progressives keep wanting to shame White people for being White, until they then veer into their weird habit of depicting Black people as being White.
I refer to the progressive tendency to skip back and forth between defining “White” to mean “light skinned person” to defining “White” or “Whiteness” as being “Western culture and ideals,” or “disagreeing with Marxism and other far left views and far left hobby horses.”
This means, if a person with dark skin disagrees with far left politics, the far left deems that person “White adjacent.”
This is how we end up with some (Link): very bizarre news headlines where Black conservative or Black libertarian men and women are referred to by far left liberals as being “White.”
The following is shameful and antithetical to the Christian faith – but this is a relatively small to moderate problem of a much-larger problem with far left views about racism:

A church in suburban Chicago has told parishioners it will abstain from performing any music that is associated with White people during the season of Lent.
“In our worship services throughout Lent, we will not be using any music or liturgy written or composed by white people,” the website for the First United Church of Oak Park reads. “Our music will be drawn from the African American spirituals tradition, from South African freedom songs, from Native American traditions, and many, many more.”
The statement continues, “For Lent, it is our prayer that in our spiritual disciplines we may grow as Christians, united in the body of Christ with people of all ages, nations, races, and origins.”
According to (Link): a report from Turning Point USA, the church also erected a sign promoting the racially-charged Lenten fast saying that it would be hosting worship services “around the voices of Black people, indigenous people, and people of color.”
Both the church office and head pastor John Edgerton, who is a White male, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
The church is also reportedly promoting reflections that it calls “evotionals” which have supported the idea of “fasting from whiteness.”
In the section of the church website that explains its “values,” the church claims that its members support a covenant of practicing “inclusion” by “valuing people of all races, ethnicities, cultural identities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities in every aspect of our congregational life.”
The church which is reportedly “fasting from whiteness” also describes itself as an “open and inclusive Christian Community.”

If you want to include more voices of “POC” (persons of color) in your church services, that is all fine and dandy, but there’s no need to silence the voices of Whites or to eliminate hymns by Whites.
Building up “your” group does not mean having to tear down another. If you disagree, you just may have NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder), or you are quite possibly somewhere on the narcissism spectrum. You’re certainly pretty self-absorbed or selfish, at the very least.
There’s nothing “inclusive” ((Link): or “Christian”) about excluding an entire group in this manner. This is actually an example of exclusion.
Update below. American Christians, including White people, fought to end slavery in the United States; so they already “laid down their Whiteness.”
If the left continues to define “Whiteness” to mean “legacy ideas and practices from Judeo-Christian and Greek culture,” as they do, then no, I don’t agree with “laying down Whiteness.”

The church has drawn attention for ‘Fasting from Whiteness’

A liberal Illinois church that has received media attention for saying that it would not utilize any music or liturgy created by white people during Lent is standing behind its woke ways.
The First United Church of Oak Park, which is openly pro-LGBT and lists social justice as one of its “core values,” had previously posted a message on its website headlined, “Lent 2022: Fasting From Whiteness.”
…While that message no longer appears on the church’s website, statements addressing the controversy have been posted.
“Our Lenten theme has spurred considerable discussion, with some people questioning the message. In practice with the Lenten spiritual discipline of fasting, our intent was to lay aside our usual frames of reference and open ourselves to hearing the Gospel message through the voices of Black People, Indigenous People, and People of Color,” one statement explained. “Our worship services in Lent have been diverse and beautiful. We pray that God oils the hinges of our hearts’ doors that they might swing open gently to receive the good newsof Christ’s resurrection, which we all await at the culmination of Lent.”
The church said in another press release that it got more than 1,000 “hateful messages” in less than a day.
“White people absolutely have a place in the redemption story. White people were even at the foot of the cross: they were the Roman Guards. As white people we must love our Redeemer enough to put down our spears. We must love our redeemer more than our whiteness, and kneel before our redeemer who is a dark-skinned man from the poor parts of town,” Rev. John Edgerton said, according to the press release.
Edgerton is described as the “Lead Pastor” on the church’s website — the press release uses the term “senior pastor.”
