Guidepost Solutions’ LGBT Pride Tweet Sparks Uproar in SBC

Guidepost Solutions’ LGBT Pride Tweet Sparks Uproar in SBC

Well, LOL! So much for “experts,” I guess.

An abuse survivor who is quick to go on witch hunts against supposed abusers (calling himself or herself “BAaccountablity” on Twitter) screamed at me a few weeks ago that I have to believe anything and everything that “GRACE” (an organization which studies how Christian groups handle abuse) says, does, or believes, nor can I question any view or practice of “GRACE” because they are “experts” at abuse
(and apparently they’re also experts at Codependency, according to “BAaccountability,” though when I visited the GRACE site a few weeks ago, I saw nothing about the topic of Codependency at their site using their search feature.prideFlagOriginal - Copy
Time, energy, and interest permitting, I will be making more blog posts about that topic and more in the future.)

I’m sure that the people at GRACE are not complete morons nor totally inept concerning the topic of abuse (I am assuming).

However…
Just because a group or person are considered “experts” in their field does not mean they are infallible or lacking a bad or misplaced agenda.

They may be somewhat competent at commenting on abuse, but those who are employed there (at GRACE – or at Guidepost Solutions, for that matter) are still capable of making mistakes, like any other group or person.

That a group or person may be considered an “expert” on a topic (and given that even experts can and do make mistakes) does not mean that I must un-questioningly or un-critically agree with any and all opinions of all their contributors, or that they necessarily know everything about abuse, abusive dynamics, Codependency, or understand Codependency correctly. (More on that in a possible future post or two.)

Here lately, these “experts” at Guidepost Solutions tweeted a “pride month” type comment with a rainbow flag.

I’ve nothing against homosexual people (at least not the ones who are not far left authoritarians), but if a group or organization is virtue signaling during pride month by slapping rainbows in their tweets, it tells me, it hints, that they just may be leftist, progressive, and “woke,” which makes them a little suspect in my eyes.

If you’re someone who is serious about fighting abuse in churches and getting churches to be more transparent in how they handle abuse, my advice to you is to drop any and all “woke” commentary, symbols, and language from your site or social media, because most of the churches you’re at odds with are conservative, and conservatives are not “pro-woke.”

I am a conservative, and I can tell you right now most conservatives will tune you out the moment they see “intersectional,” woke type language, view points, or imagery from you in person, in e-mails, texts, or on your social media.

You either need to make your “save and help victims!” a priority, or you make your leftist politics a priority here – you cannot have both if your goal is to honestly get conservative churches to fix how they usually mishandle abuse cases in their midst.

The far left is trying to erode boundaries around sexuality – they are trying to normalize pedophilia (links to more content about this issue below).

That is part and parcel of the LGBTQ movement (that is what the rainbow flag has now come to symbolize); the LGBTQ movement is not about getting Christians or mainstream Americans to merely “tolerate” the idea that two men want to kiss or marry each other.

It’s moved way beyond that, if you have been paying attention the last few years.

I agree that most churches don’t properly or sensitively deal with abuse (whether rape of women, molestation of children, or wife abuse), but the way to tackle it is not via “woke” organizations that are inadvertently platforming pedophilia.

(Link): Guidepost Solutions’ LGBT pride tweet sparks uproar in SBC

June 10, 2022
by Leonardo Blair

Guidepost Solutions, the investigative firm that recently produced a report on how the Southern Baptist Convention’s leadership mishandled sexual abuse allegations, is coming under fire from high-profile leaders in the denomination over a tweet supporting LGBT pride.

“Guidepost is committed to strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion and strives to be an organization where our team can bring their authentic selves to work,” the firm declared in a tweet Monday. “We celebrate our collective progress toward equality for all and are proud to be an ally to our LGBTQ+ community.”

As the secular firm’s tweet made the rounds on social media, Randy C. Davis, president and executive director of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, denounced the company’s statement and urged SBC entities receiving funding from the denomination’s Cooperative Program to “immediately break ties with Guidepost Solutions.”

The Cooperative Program is the SBC’s unified plan of giving through which cooperating SBC churches give a percentage of their undesignated receipts in support of their respective state convention, SBC missions and ministries. The sexual abuse investigation, which cost more than $2 million, was funded by allocations from the Cooperative Program.

…Tom Buck, the outspoken senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Lindale, Texas, publicly questioned whether the SBC should adopt the solutions offered by the firm to address sexual abuse. flagTransPride - Copy

“Hey, SBC! You might want to consider this as you contemplate adopting the solutions they offer our convention. Not sure their voice should be listened to by any Christian organization. They don’t hold a biblical worldview and their recommendations reflect that,” Buck tweeted Monday, pointing to Guidepost’s gay pride tweet.

The SBC Executive Committee announced on June 11, 2021, that Guidepost Solutions, chosen by the SBC Sexual Abuse Task Force, would review allegations made by the former SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission President Russell Moore that SBC leaders intimidated whistleblowers and exonerated churches with credible claims they mishandled sexual abuse allegations.

Guidepost Solutions was commissioned to “review and enhance training [on sex abuse] provided to SBC Executive Committee staff and its board of trustees” and the organization’s “communications to cooperating churches and congregants in cooperating churches.”

The investigation’s findings were released last month and allege that the denomination’s leadership mishandled sexual abuse allegations, mistreated victims and advocates, engaged in an abusive pattern of intimidation and repeatedly resisted reforms aimed at making their churches safer largely to avoid liability.

“If anyone was looking for an excuse not to deal with sexual abuse and mistreatment of survivors within the SBC, Guidepost Solutions provided the perfect cover yesterday with their ‘pride’ month tweet. I was both disappointed and stunned,” Blalock began in a series of tweets Tuesday.

(Link): Debate About Sexual Abuse Report Erupts Among SBC Leaders Following Guidepost Solutions’ Pride Month Tweet

June 7, 2022

With the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention roughly one week away, tensions are continuing to rise among key SBC leaders regarding the Guidepost Solutions report of how the Executive Committee handled sexual abuse allegations from 2000 to 2021 and the recommended response being put forth by the Sexual Abuse Task Force (SATF) in accordance with the report.

Earlier this week, some SBC leaders raised concerns about how the cost of implementing reforms may affect budgeting constraints for missions. Now leaders are raising alarm bells after Guidepost Solutions tweeted their support for LGBTQ+ Pride Month on Monday (June 6).

…Guidepost Solutions, whom the SBC Executive Committee tasked with performing an independent third-party investigation, was originally contacted under the direction of former Executive Committee president and CEO Ronnie Floyd and under the advice of sexual abuse survivor advocate Rachael Denhollander.

After Floyd resigned from the Executive Committee following the committee’s decision to waive attorney-client privilege, the Sexual Abuse Task Force, appointed by SBC president Ed Litton, decided to move forward with hiring Guidepost Solutions.

Following the release of the report, the Executive Committee voted to allocate funds to implement suggested reforms. The final decision regarding how the SBC moves forward in light of the report will be determined, in large part, by the votes of SBC messengers at the annual meeting in Anaheim, California, next week.

Guidepost Solutions has established itself as a reputable independent third-party investigator for organizations seeking to uncover failures of policy and institutional structures, including Christian organizations, having also performed an investigation about sexual harassment claims within Christianity Today.

Nevertheless, Guidepost Solutions’ affirmation of Pride Month was enough to give some SBC leaders pause about implementing any of their suggested reforms, particularly those leaders who were already reticent or reluctant to begin with.

… Former Executive Committee member Rod Martin also tweeted with frustration, saying, “Some people will make any excuse whatsoever to hide the fact that they want a bunch of LGBTQIA+ activists to rewrite our ecclesiology.”

Tom Ascol, Florida pastor and one of two leading SBC presidential candidates, said, “This is who we gave our tithe dollars to?”

“I & 47,000 other SBC pastors, plus millions of faithful members feel betrayed. We paid $millions to a LGBT-affirming & proud organization to guide us on moral & spiritual matters!? Is there no fear of God?” Ascol continued. “They are trying to play us…AGAIN! Brothers & sisters, we have a Book. We must use it. I pray that the messengers do the right thing & instruct the EC to use Christians, & THE BIBLE, to redraft these recommendations.”

Some comments below Ascol’s Twitter thread suggested that by hiring Guidepost Solutions for the investigation, the SBC had funded the “LGBTQ agenda” with tithe dollars sent from local churches to the Cooperative Program fund.

Nevertheless, others within the SBC pointed out that Guidepost Solutions investigation had shed necessary light on the stories of abuse survivors and that implementing reforms is still vital, regardless of Guidepost’s stance on sexual ethics.

Guidepost Solutions Rainbow Flag

A few days ago, when I began seeing “abuse survivor advocates” tweet or re-tweet comments saying things like, “I can’t believe the Southern Baptist Church is more upset over the presence of Rainbow Flags than they are in eradicating abuse in their churches,” I didn’t fully grasp the context of it at the time.

I didn’t fully realize at the time that the whole ordeal was a reference to “Guidepost Solutions” tweeting out a Rainbow Flag from their twitter account, the same Guidepost Solutions that had been hired to research and file a report about sex abuse cover-ups in the SBC.

It’s odd to me that a secular group (I refer to “Guidepost Solutions”) that is supposed to contain a bunch of “experts,” and that periodically takes on conservative Christian persons or groups as clients, would be so daft as to woke-virtue-signal.

This isn’t a perfect analogy, but it would be a little like being an organization that willingly takes on Islamic or Jewish groups as clients but then tweets out things like, “Celebrate Ramadan or Passover with Ham Sandwiches,” then include a photo of a ham sandwich, too.

I have a hard time taking such a group as being an “expert” at anything but putting their own feet in their mouths or badly mis-reading the room.

I do agree that most Southern Baptists (and other churches) really seem to lack empathy and competence at dealing with abuse in their midst, but I don’t blame them for being hesitant over a group that thinks it’s fine to tweet out Pride Month virtue signaling, either – which doesn’t mean I believe they should just disregard any and all recommendations by that group.

I’ve seen various abuse survivor advocates on line pitch a fit that some Baptists are not very amendable to Guidepost Solutions.

This is yet another case where I don’t come down fully on either one side of the other.

I think that most Baptists are terrible at dealing with abuse and at showing compassion to abuse survivors,
but on the other hand,
considering that the woke do want to infiltrate and destroy church and faith in this nation, I cannot entirely dismiss the concerns of those Baptists who are troubled over the pro-LGBTQ posturing of Guidepost Solutions.

Locke Lorde

One abuse survivor advocate, Jules Woodson, (Link): was alleging  below a (Link):  tweet by a Baptist guy (Tom Ascol) that one firm hired by Southern Baptists however many months to years ago (the firm was called “Locke Lord”) to stall abuse reports also tweeted a Rainbow flag during Pride Month to say ‘Happy Pride Month.’

Either, yes, the Southern Baptists who are opposed to LGBTQ activism need to be more diligent about which organizations they hire, or, perhaps the Pride Month tweet sent by Locke Lorde was tweeted in summer of 2022, prior to the Southern Baptists trying to hire Locke Lorde.

Does Locke Lorde mention openly on their site that they support progressive LGBTQ identity politics?

If they weren’t too open about their pro-LGBTQ stances until June 2022, it would be a little unfair to bash Southern Baptists over that.

I visited the (Link): Locke Lorde Values and Mission Statement page today (June 11, 2022), and other than a brief mention of their belief in ‘diversity and inclusion,’ I didn’t see any specific pro-LGBTQ mentions or advocacy on their site, nor did I see any Rainbow flags.

Another (Link): guy in that conversation claims that Ronnie Floyd was responsible for choosing Locke Lorde, and that Floyd is supposedly LGBTQ affirming. I have no idea how accurate any of that is, nor do I feel like researching more on that.

Here’s some material about Floyd’s role in the SBC abuse debacle:

(Link): Ronnie Floyd responds to Southern Baptist handling of abuse reports

Excerpts:

May 23, 2022
by Paul Petitte

The Guidepost investigative report says survivors and other concerned Southern Baptists repeatedly shared allegations with Floyd’s committee, “only to be met time and again with resistance, stonewalling – typically due to concerns over liability.”

The report says Floyd “tried to prevent the motion for the investigation from being introduced or approved at the Nashville convention.”

In a statement to 40/29 News, Floyd wrote: “We did not resist the motion. The only question about the motion was the “waiving of attorney-client privilege.”

“I supported the independent investigation. I also hired Guidepost to do it even before the 2021 convention.”

How the investigation was carried out was met with contention.

A page at Wikipedia (Link): has a section of Floyd’s involvement with the sexual abuse coverups with the SBC.

Queer Theory Seeks to Normalize Sexual Abuse of Children and Women

Yes, you may want to practice caution with organizations or companies who align themselves with the LGBTQ cause. Screen Capture of the

I note that in the Guidepost Solutions tweet, they include the “T” and the “Q”. (See screen cap to left of their tweet.)

The “T”  (Transgender) and the “Q” (Queer) want to push out the L, G, and the B and normalize pedophilia – they support a belief called “Queer Theory” which conveys any and all labels and categories are oppressive and should be done away with.

The Trans and the Queers reject a “gender binary,” so they want to get rid of bi-sexuals and bi-sexuality, because bi-sexuals claim to be attracted to both in the binary (male and female); bi-sexuals, (as do the L  (Lesbians) and the G (Gays)), recognize that biological sex exists; they don’t deny it, as do the Trans and the Queers.

(There’s been an online feud among the LGBTQ for the last few years about all this, and Christians and some conservatives have only started to notice lately.)

Queer Theory has also resulted in Autogynephilia being mistaken for Gender Dysphoria, so that men that find wearing skirts a turn-on, and who find sexism against women erotic, are now allowed into women’s only spaces, where they have been sexually assaulting women. (Examples of this below, under “Related Posts.”)

Ergo, Guidepost Solutions, by affirming the “T” and the “Q,” are actually “erasing” the “B,” and are also indirectly supporting biological men harming, sexually harassing, and raping women and girls (e.g., “transwomen” (men who claim to be women) being legally permitted into women’s domestic violence shelters, women’s bathrooms, where they rape or grope females, etc)

James Lindsay, Atheistic Anti-CRT, Anti-Queer Theory

I didn’t copy it in the excerpts above, but anti-CRT advocate James Lindsay was mentioned in some of the articles I linked to.

One Southern Baptist guy reasoned that since some Baptists were fine with quoting Lindsay’s work against CRT, that they should also be fine with accepting the results of the secular, LGBTQ-affirming “Guidepost Solutions” group.

However, while I see the point the guy is making on that, the difference is, James Lindsay may be an atheist, but he’s very outspoken on his Twitter and site about being anti-grooming and anti-child sexual exploitation.

In addition to being outspoken against CRT (Critical Race Theory) Lindsay is also outspoken against Queer Theory.

Lindsay is very opposed to Queer Theory, which does seek to desensitize adults to the idea of allowing open, adult sexuality around children, such as allowing public school teachers to discuss their sexuality around their child students and to allow children to attend “drag queen shows” at libraries, strip clubs, etc, which has in fact been happening, as has been documented on other people’s sites, such as here (or see this link, “There’s no such thing as a family-friendly drag show“).

Lindsay may not believe that Jesus is God, but he doesn’t want to expose your children to adult sex acts, either, which I cannot say for progressive LGBTQ persons or organizations.

Relevant Material

Here are some relevant tweets I saw about this uproar (and other pertinent stuff):

LGBTQ  and Pedophilia

This “Get Vaxxed” person is one who I generally agree with (I’ve seen her (or him?) pop up in various Twitter conversations about church abuse for months now), but I think she at times misses the mark, and this is one of those times.

“Get Vaxxed” seems to think this is a mutually exclusive proposition:
That one can either acknowledge sexual abuse in churches or in secular culture (which is, though she denies it, being heavily promoted right now by progressives who are pushing a LGBTQ worldview).

There is another option available, which is, a person can acknowledge that sex abuse is an issue in both churches and in secular culture.

As of 2022, more (younger) people are starting to identify as LGBTQ, but for years and years, homosexuals are a small percentage of the American population, like around three percent (the ten percent number is suspect, more on that below).

The point being is that, if 90 – 95% of the population is heterosexual, yes, by sheer numbers, there will be more heterosexual sex offenders because there are  more heterosexuals in the population than homosexuals.

Or, to put it another way, if only three percent, 3%, of the population is currently homosexual but is tracked as being behind 80-90% (or whatever figure) of most child molesting, by percentage, they’d be worse in this area than heteros.

More here:

(Link):  Homosexuality and Child Sexual Abuse

The 10 percent fallacy: Studies indicate that, contrary to the inaccurate but widely accepted claims of sex researcher Alfred Kinsey, homosexuals comprise between 1 to 3 percent of the population.

Homosexuals are overrepresented in child sex offenses: Individuals from the 1 to 3 percent of the population that is sexually attracted to the same sex are committing up to one-third of the sex crimes against children.

Some homosexual activists defend the historic connection between homosexuality and pedophilia: Such activists consider the defense of “boy-lovers” to be a legitimate gay rights issue.

Pedophile themes abound in homosexual literary culture: Gay fiction as well as serious academic treatises promote “intergenerational intimacy.”

MALE HOMOSEXUALS COMMIT A DISPROPORTIONATE NUMBER OF CHILD SEX ABUSE CASES
Homosexual apologists admit that some homosexuals sexually molest children, but they deny that homosexuals are more likely to commit such offenses.
After all, they argue, the majority of child molestation cases are heterosexual in nature. While this is correct in terms of absolute numbers, this argument ignores the fact that homosexuals comprise only a very small percentage of the population.

The evidence indicates that homosexual men molest boys at rates grossly disproportionate to the rates at which heterosexual men molest girls. To demonstrate this it is necessary to connect several statistics related to the problem of child sex abuse:
1) men are almost always the perpetrator;
2) up to one-third or more of child sex abuse cases are committed against boys;
3) less than three percent of the population are homosexuals.
Thus, a tiny percentage of the population (homosexual men), commit one-third or more of the cases of child sexual molestation.
— end excerpts —

(Link): Homosexuals, despite the assertions, more likely to commit sexual abuse

(Link): The proportions of heterosexual and homosexual pedophiles among sex offenders against children: an exploratory study

Excerpts:

Using phallometric test sensitivities to calculate the proportion of true pedophiles among various groups of sex offenders against children, and taking into consideration previously reported mean numbers of victims per offender group, the ratio of heterosexual to homosexual pedophiles was calculated to be approximately 11:1.
This suggests that the resulting proportion of true pedophiles among persons with a homosexual erotic development is greater than that in persons who develop heterosexually. This, of course, would not indicate that androphilic males have a greater propensity to offend against children.
— end excerpts —

An individual would have to be living in a progressive bubble, where they ONLY follow church abuse twitter accounts, to not see all the sexual abuse and grooming being promoted by left wing ideology, as documented by some classical liberals and conservatives, such as James Lindsay, Libs of Tik Tok, and others.

(I myself follow a mix of Twitter accounts: some are secular, some Christian, some are left wing, some are conservative, populist, old school liberal, or libertarian.)

A lot of progressives, and some conservatives, do not want to honestly grapple with the fact that pedophiles and abusers are a part of EVERY walk of life, of every group.

Pedophiles can be married, single, white, black, Republican, Democrat, progressive, libertarian, conservative, atheist, Christian, Jewish, or Islamic.

Progressives seem more hesitant to accept that, though, and from what I’ve seen of them on social media, prefer to think, and live in this fantasy world, that pedophiles can be found ONLY among Christians, conservatives, or Republicans.
