Christian Virginity Peddlers Vs Muslims Who Molest Girls and The Liberals Who Look the Other Way

Christian Virginity Peddlers Vs Muslims Who Molest Girls & The Liberals Who Look the Other Way

I intended on making this blog post the other day but forgot. As I noted in one of my (Link): last posts, I have not visited SCCL (Stuff Christian Culture Likes) Facebook group since early June 2017 for reasons that are explained in that post.

A couple of weeks ago, someone in my Twitter shared a link to (Link): this page titled“Jodi Heckert Pledged to Protect His Daughter’s Virginity, Now in Prison For Child Molestation”

If you scroll to the bottom of that page, there is a line that reads:

“H/T Stuff Christian Culture Likes.”

[Hat Tip to Stuff Christian Culture Likes]

So, I take it that Stephanie Drury, maintainer of SCCL Facebook group, posted a link to that news story on her group for her members to mock and cluck in worry over. This same, group, though, which is largely comprised of liberals, does not like for Islam to be called out for infractions against girls, women, or for anyone, really.

When I mentioned in one of (Link): my other posts critical of SCCL that about any time I see a terrorist mentioned on the news, the terrorist almost always turns out to be a Muslim (yes, it’s true, (Link): most of them are), several of Drury’s SCCL readers had temper tantrums.

Before I continue, allow me to quote from liberal, atheist, and Democrat Camille Paglia here:

But today’s liberalism has become grotesquely mechanistic and authoritarian: It’s all about reducing individuals to a group identity, defining that group in permanent victim terms, and denying others their democratic right to challenge that group and its ideology.

… The reluctance or inability of Western liberals to candidly confront jihadism has been catastrophically counterproductive insofar as it has inspired an ongoing upsurge in right-wing politics in Europe and the United States.

Citizens have an absolute right to demand basic security from their government. The contortions to which so many liberals resort to avoid connecting bombings, massacres, persecutions, and cultural vandalism to Islamic jihadism is remarkable, given their usual animosity to religion, above all Christianity.

…Right now, too many secular Western liberals treat Islam with paternalistic condescension…

Paglia is one of the few left wingers I’ve seen who comprehends.

Islam is notorious for sexism. Many of their Imams teach it is acceptable for husbands to beat wives. Honor killings, where Muslim families will stone girls or women to death for being rape victims, are not uncommon. In some Islamic nations or cultures, women are not allowed to ride bicycles, wear skirts, or obtain educations. (Examples with links to news stories of all those mentioned (Link): here)

“Jesus Didn’t Die to Save My Hymen” Declares An Anti-Sexual Purity Advocate – My Response

“Jesus Didn’t Die to Save My Hymen” Declares An Anti-Sexual Purity Advocate – My Response

I have addressed topics similar to this before on my blog, so instead of re-hashing all my previous points and arguments, I may just link you to a few of my older posts farther below.

(I should perhaps mention that I’ve had a long day today, am very tired, and currently have a bad headache, so I am not in top form to compose a post right now.)

Here’s the impetus behind this post:

I was reading through my Twitter feed today and saw a post where Janet Mefferd, Christian radio host, shared a comment about how an anti-Sexual Purity article Tweeted by Christian site ‘Relevant’ was Gnostic in nature, in that it talked about ‘sexual soul purity’ vs. ‘sexual bodily purity.’

You can read Mrs. Mefferd’s Tweet (Link): here, with some responses by me below it.

Where-upon an anti-Sexual Purity advocate I follow on Twitter by the name of April, shared Ms. Mefferd’s Tweet or another related Tweet by Mefferd with the comment above it, “Jesus didn’t die to save my hymen.”

You can view April’s tweet (Link): here.

I Tweeted in response to April the following comment:

Taking an anti-sexual purity stance waters down biblical sexual ethics. I’m over 40, still a virgin.  @ April_Kelsey

Well, I don’t recall Ms. Mefferd or myself or anyone else who defends the concept of sexual purity, or who say the Bible does teach the concept of sexual purity, as saying that Jesus died to save your hymen.

“‘I Kissed Dating Goodbye’ [Book] Told Me to Stay Pure Until Marriage. I Still Have a Stain on My Heart” – Regarding: Dating Book by Author Josh Harris (with other related links about the IKDG book) and Criticizing “Purity Culture”

August 24, 2016 update: I added a new link at the bottom of this post: people continue to attack the idea of sexual purity by publicizing backlash against the Harris IKDG book.

I myself have never read the IKDB book, which was written by Harris. I have read about the book on other sites in the past, and it is my understanding the book discussed how to date, and other such topics, and is not strictly about sex or virginity.

The author uses this review of the IKDG book to bash “purity culture,” and in so doing, touches on the topic or staying chaste until marriage.

I am in the middle of this debate. I cannot completely agree with all the critics of “purity culture,” depending on what they are criticizing about it and why.

I believe that the Bible teaches both male and females are to sexually abstain until marriage, so I don’t believe in tossing out this teaching all because some young women feel they have been hurt or oppressed by it.

On the other hand, how some Christians have taught about sexual purity has been lop-sided – males are typically not addressed, only females – and Christians could do a better, or more sensitive job, in how they present the concept of remaining a virgin until marriage.

With that introduction, here is the link, with some excerpts (and note, I am not in complete agreement with all views in this piece; however, I’m not a supporter of a lot of Christian dating advice. Christian dating advice tends to act as an obstacle to singles who want to someday marry):

(Link): “‘I Kissed Dating Goodbye’ told me to stay pure until marriage. I still have a stain on my heart

Excerpts:

July 27, 2016

In 1997, Joshua Harris published “I Kissed Dating Goodbye,” a book that was in part a warning about the harm that relationships before marriage could cause. Harris evoked images of men at the altar bringing all their past partners with them into the marriage to reinforce the point that love and sex before marriage took pieces of your heart and made you less.

At the time, Harris was just 21, but he was already a rising star.

…He [Harris] was what we, as young evangelicals, wanted to be. And so we strove passionately to attain the ideal of premarital purity he laid out for us. Now, almost 20 years later, even Harris appears to be questioning whether his advice did more harm than good.

…But Harris’s book was hugely influential.

…On the surface, I am a purity-culture success story: I am a heterosexual woman, a virgin until marriage, now with two small children and a husband I deeply love. We attend church. We believe in God. And yet, for me, the legacy of purity culture is not one of freedom but one of fear.

Virginity is a Sacred Choice, Not a Shameful Status by C. Martin / Giving Sex to a Man is Not A Relationship Lasting Guarantee Contra Comic Chelsea Handler

Virginity is a Sacred Choice, Not a Shameful Status by C. Martin / Giving Sex to a Man is Not A Guarantee for a Lasting Relationship – Contra Comic Chelsea Handler

The following blog post contains strong profanity in places and some frank sexual talk.
—————————————–
Not that I object to this editorial per se, but it’s being carried by the same site (a pro-life site) that (Link): usually denigrates female virginity – because they put too high a premium on people pro-creating, and if a woman is remaining chaste, she is, in their opinion, in sin, or error or some sort, for not having sex and making babies, because supposedly, a woman’s only purpose in life is to make babies (even though the Bible no where teaches this concept).

But here is a guest editorial they are featuring where the author is defending a person’s right to sexually abstain, and it’ okay.

(Link): Virginity is a Sacred Choice, Not a Shameful Status by C. Martin

Excerpts:

  • by C. Martin
  • Our society is obsessed with talking about sex, regardless if you’re having it or not. Take for instance the recent March (Link): cover of People magazine, which featured the title, “Bachelor’s Sean & Catherine, Waiting for Our Wedding night.”
  • To make things a bit clearer, they added below the title, “No sex until ‘I do.’” The cover may intrigue those who scratch their heads, wondering in earnest why anyone would (gasp) wait to have sex.

An Example of Mocking Adult Virginity Via Twitter (Virginity Used As Insult)

An Example of Mocking Adult Virginity Via Twitter (Virginity Used As Insult)

I follow different types of accounts on Twitter (I’m on Twitter (Link): here), some of the accounts I follow are right wing, some left wing, mostly religious based, but I do follow a small number of political accounts.

While scrolling through my feed today, I saw an exchange between a right wing guy, Cloyd Rivers, and a guy who is a socialist, Feel The Bernie.

You can view a screen shot of their tweets (Link): here.

Here is what they tweeted at one another:

Feel the Bernie to Cloyd Rivers:

  • I imagine whoever is running this account has never had sex let alone touched a woman

Cloyd Rivers reply to Feel the Bernie:

  • I imagine whomever is running a Bernie Sanders account has never had a real job, let alone paid taxes.

I’m not terribly interested in the political wrangling going on there.

I just wanted to note that in the course of debating a political subject, someone out there felt it acceptable to make fun of another guy based on his supposed lack of sexual experience or sexual activity. As though being celibate or a virgin is a shameful, horrible thing.

Christian Radio Host Busted for Slapping Woman’s ‘Butt Cheek’ Inside Target Restroom – And How This Conflicts With Preacher Doug Wilson’s Propriety of Rape Commentary

Christian Radio Host Busted for Slapping Woman’s ‘Butt Cheek’ Inside Target Restroom – And How This Conflicts With Preacher Doug Wilson’s Propriety of Rape Commentary

First, here is a link to the news story with some excerpts, followed by some observations by me:

(Link): Christian Radio Host Busted for Slapping Woman’s ‘Butt Cheek’ Inside Target Restroom by B P Markus

Excerpts:

  • Feb 17, 2016
  • A  customer, (Link): The Blade reports.
  • Mark Wayne Howington, 52, was arrested Thursday and charged with assault after a woman said she entered the restroom in the Ohio Target store and had it pulled open by Howington. As he passed her, he allegedly “slapped her butt cheek really hard,” according to a police report obtained by The Blade.
  • The woman, Debra Piechowski, told ABC13 she was at a Target store with her niece in Toledo looking for a birthday and Valentine’s Day gift for her husband.
  • Howington co-hosts a morning show on (Link): Proclaim FM, a Christian radio station.
  • She went to security but the man who slapped her left really quickly.

Before I tie this in with pastor Doug Wilson (much farther below), I wanted to reiterate a few points I normally make about such stories when I post them.

I don’t know if this Howington guy is married or not, or a father. If he is either one or both, I can tell you this is another example of how being married or a parent are not indicators of maturity or godliness, as many Christians say they are. Nor is being married a guarantee a man is not going to pull sexual shenanigans on people who aren’t his wife.

Married people also sexually sin at times. Sexual sin is not the lone province of single adults.

Not only am I, a never married adult not having sex (I have chosen to stay celibate so far into my life), but I don’t go around doing things like slapping other people on their butts.

Ashley Madison Site Hack Update / Family Values Activist Josh Duggar Had a Paid Ashley Madison Account / Sexual Abstinence Does Not Necessarily or Always Cause Repression or Sexual Sin

Ashley Madison Site Hack Update / Family Values Activist Josh Duggar Had a Paid Ashley Madison Account

Please see the August 20, 2015 updates farther below, including comments about sexual repression and sexual deviancy.

Aug 26, 2015 update below: Porn star claims Duggar paid to have sex with her while his wife was pregnant; says his behavior was creepy and a little violent

———————————

I did blog about the Ashley Madison hack about a month or more ago (link to that farther below).

I am pretty socially conservative, am not opposed to “family values” per se, but I do really think a lot of Christians and other social conservatives have gone too far with the family values shtick. They have turned marriage, parenthood, and children into idols.

It is pretty annoying when any of the spokespersons for “family values” turn out to be big hypocrites in the area of sexual mores or related issues.

I can tell you that believing in family values, being a virgin or being celibate, are not causes of adultery or pedophilia.

I feel the need to mention this, because almost any time a story comes up in the media like what I am discussing in this post, some left wing critics like to opine that celibacy requirements causes priests to molest children, or they consider the emphasis on sexual purity in a person’s life to be a form of sexual repression that causes that person to engage in sexual sin like pedophilia or adultery later in life (case in point here: Josh Duggar).

The problem is I have read of reverse stories.

I have read news articles of people who were exposed to all sorts of pornography when they were young, and / or who were raped or fondled as children, or people who had very lax parents who in turn who had very lax sexual values, and who later went on to become pedophiles, rapists, or adulterers.

That is, I don’t think that someone raised in a culture of Christian sexual purity and family values is necessarily more inclined to commit sexual crimes or sins than someone who was not.

A brief recap of my situation: I am over the age of 40 and have not had sexual intercourse (I am a virgin). I was waiting for marriage to have sex. Though I was engaged earlier, I broke it off with the guy and have not married yet. And I’ve not been having sex.

Though I am celibate, I am not a deviant: I do not fondle kids, have any sexual interest in or desire for children, nor do I ever picture myself joining an adultery site, should I marry.

It’s very offensive for commentators on various blogs and forums around the web to suggest that being celibate or being raised in a culture of sexual purity is always or necessarily a cause in someone engaging in sexual sin or crime later in life.

Lastly, this latest Josh Duggar story again pokes holes in one common conservative Christian belief that marriage is necessary to make people more godly, ethical, loving, responsible, or that marriage makes people immune from, or less likely to, sexually sin.

Wrongo! I have a  (Link): long list on my blog of stories like this, of married people who get caught in sexual sins or crimes.

Having said all that, here are some more updates about the pro-adultery site Ashley Madison being hacked, as well as a story about “Family Values” advocate Josh Duggar being a member of that site, and other, related stories:

(Link):  Is This Josh Duggar’s OkCupid Profile?

Said one commentator on that page:

  • comment by bloodlesscoup
  • I feel so bad for Anna [Josh Duggar’s wife] (or, as I like to think of her, Vacant Amy Adams), because
  • 1) they’re just going to PRAY ABOUT THIS and find the strength to stay as a family, and
  • 2) I bet he’s shit in bed and she’s linked for life to be an incubator for one of the least-satisfying sexual partners imaginable.
  • Like, girl, GET OUT. You’re too good for this world. The Duggar World.

I too feel sorry for his wife.

(Link):  REVEALED: Josh Duggar revealed as having ‘paid almost $1,000 for multiple Ashley Madison accounts’ as 37million would-be love-cheats are named by hackers who stole Ashley Madison accounts

  • A report claims that Josh Duggar had multiple Ashley Madison accounts
  • Duggar was allegedly looking for ‘conventional sex, experimenting with sex toys, one-night stands, sharing fantasies, sex talk,’ and more
  • Among the type of woman he was allegedly looking for were ‘naughty girl, aggressive / take charge girl, high sex drive and creative and adventurous’
  • The second account was reportedly ‘paid on a monthly basis until May of 2015,’ which is when reports broke Josh had molested his siblings
  • Josh and his wife Anna were married in 2008 after they began courting in 2007, sharing their first kiss on the altar
  • The couple have four children; Mackynzie, Michael, Marcus and Meredith
