By Laura Kelly – The Washington Times – Monday, April 9, 2018
Syphilis has made a comeback in the U.S., and health researchers are using Google searches and tweets in an effort to predict the next outbreak.

After decades of steady decline, infection rates for the sexually transmitted disease started to rise after hitting a historic low in 2000 — from 2.2 cases per 100,000 people to 8.7 cases per 100,000 in 2015 and 2016, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dec 2017

A married hedge-funder wooed his beauty-pageant mistress with the promise of an ostrich farm in Uganda — only to gift her with an STD, a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit says.

Former Miss Germany International Aline Marie Massel, 31, revealed the alleged seamy details of her two-year illicit relationship with Autonomy Capital CEO Robert Charles Gibbins in new court documents.

The beauty queen-turned-Tesla model met Gibbins while dining at Le Bilboquet in Manhattan in June 2014, her suit says.

Gibbins, who is in his 40s, told Massel he was unmarried and said he wanted to have four children with her, the suit says.

“He promised to buy a large estate for them in Canada called the Royal Antler . . . and an ostrich farm in Uganda,” according to court papers.

HIV Positive Homosexual Guy Allegedly Cut Tips Off Condoms to Infect His Grindr Dates

HIV Positive Homosexual Guy Allegedly Cut Tips Off Condoms to Infect His Grindr Dates

I most usually focus on hetero-sexuals or heterosexual related issues, but there’s this story (another example of why being celibate isn’t so bad, you don’t have to worry about someone deliberately trying to give you a STI):

Oct 2017

A hairdresser deliberately infected at least four men with HIV after meeting them on gay dating app Grindr — before sending them mocking messages, a court heard.

Daryll Rowe, 26, from Edinburgh, Scotland, is accused of embarking on a “cynical campaign” to infect as many men as he could with the virus.

He texted one of his alleged victims: “Maybe you have the fever cos I came inside you and I have HIV, lol. Whoops!”

The court heard Rowe also called one of his victims and laughed over the phone as he goaded the man about his potential diagnosis.

The victim later tested positive for HIV, with a strain of the virus similar to Rowe’s.

In 2016, Americans were infected with more than 2 million new cases of gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia, the highest number of these sexually transmitted diseases ever reported, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday.

“Clearly we need to reverse this disturbing trend,” said Dr. Gail Bolan, director of CDC’s Division of STD Prevention. “The CDC cannot do this alone and we need every community in America to be aware that this risk is out there and help educate their citizens on how to avoid it.”

The agency’s annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report shows that more than 1.6 million of the new cases were from chlamydia, 470,000 were from gonorrhea and nearly 28,000 cases were of primary and secondary syphilis.

A Day In The Life Of An Abstinence Ed Teacher by S. Gomez

A Day In The Life Of An Abstinence Ed Teacher by S. Gomez

Successful abstinence education begins with establishing and reiterating every child’s invaluable self-worth.

Excerpts:

…Many Young People Are Learning the Hard Way

My conversation with Kimberly comes at a time where abstinence-until-marriage curricula are being dragged through the media as an archaic form of moralistic sexual repression reserved exclusively for only the most backwards cities and states.

The Trump administration was chastised for its hire of pro-abstinence education leader Valerie Huber, and more recently for ending federal funding for a number of “teen pregnancy prevention” programs under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

It should be noted that “teen pregnancy prevention” is a remarkably pliable term and can include harmful curricula that don’t focus on self-worth or developing healthy boundaries.

If teens aren’t learning that mistakes have consequences, how are they to truly comprehend deciding to have sex this weekend at a party can affect their health, future fertility, and future families?

…Lost amid this battle is the one message teenagers need above all: that they are worthy of a love that is unconditional and comes without the cost of their body.

Woman Dies of Flesh-Eating Bacteria After Sex Game Goes Wrong

Woman Dies of Flesh-Eating Bacteria After Sex Game Goes Wrong

Note that in the original headline of this piece, the woman is referred to as a ‘Mom,’ which I (Link): find a little annoying.

Excerpt:

A young mom died from a rare flesh-eating disease after being injured during a sex game with her boyfriend.

Care assistant Katie Widdowson told medics she had hurt her wrist while being restrained in bed.

But hospital doctors diagnosed a simple sprain and sent her home – missing warning signs that it was something far more serious.

‘STD-Verified’ Dating App Called NeatClub – article by J. Burns

‘STD-Verified’ Dating App Called NeatClub – article by J. Burns

So sad we’re living in a day and age where this sort of thing is necessary. And yes, there are advantages to being celibate… like avoiding getting STIs.

You don’t need funding or a government program to avoid getting an STI – being celibate will do the trick, and it’s free.

(Link): ‘STD-Verified’ Dating App Is Startup Culture Via Nutshell: Frank, Unchecked, Inevitable

Again, the idea behind NeatClub isn’t totally surprising, and could easily be tempting for anyone who’s experienced the fear surrounding STIs and exposure to them.

By phone, founder Ashka Shah noted that medical experts have described the ongoing rise in STI cases in the United States as an epidemic–one that particularly affects gay and bisexual men, and which the CDC credits in large part to related funding cuts in recent years, Slate pointed out.

Despite this, sexually active folk aren’t showing up for testing like they should, and often for different reasons, according to Shah. “My research showed it was partially stigma and partially ignorance,” she said.

By inviting daters to get their status and any disclosure thereof settled at the start, Shah said, she hopes the app will help break down some of that stigma while helping to keep people safer.

CDC Report: Virgin Teens Much Healthier Than Their Sexually Active Peers (2016 Report)

CDC Report: Virgin Teens Much Healthier Than Their Sexually Active Peers (2016 Report)

Oh no. Just look at the CDC being a bunch of slut shamers!

How dare the CDC point out there are any benefits to sexually abstaining – because this just ruins some of the liberal, left wing, secular feminist talking points and probably gets the Anti-Purity Culture Crusaders upset (note: I do agree there are some problems with Purity Culture teachings, but unlike most of those who rant against it, I don’t think the Bible teaches that God is a-ok with pre-marital sex.)

A new Centers for Disease Control study examines teenage health behaviors in connection to their self-reported sexual activity and shows those who remain abstinent are much healthier on many fronts than their sexually active peers.
The (Link): report [which is a PDF document NOT an HTML one], titled “Sexual Identity, Sexual Contacts, and Health-Related Behaviors Among Students in Grades 9-12, United States and Selected Sites,” showcased the results from a 2015 survey that monitored several categories of health-related behaviors like tobacco usage, drug and alcohol use, sexual habits, unhealthy dietary behaviors, and behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence.
The report concludes “that students who had no sexual contact have a much lower prevalance of most health-risk behaviors compared with students” who had sexual contact…..
With regard to smoking, teenage virgins are 3,300 percent less likely to smoke daily than their peers who are sexually involved with someone of the opposite sex, Stanton computed from the report’s data.
Teen virgins are 9,500 percent less likely to smoke daily than their peers who are sexually involved with someone of the same sex or in a bisexual relationship, he added. Continue reading “CDC Report: Virgin Teens Much Healthier Than Their Sexually Active Peers (2016 Report)”

Actor Allegedly Gives Girlfriend Herpes 1, Herpes 2, and Gonorrhea

Actor Allegedly Gives Girlfriend Herpes 1, Herpes 2, and Gonorrhea

The actor’s lawyer released a statement in which the actor (Link): denies these allegations.

As for the allegations themselves – not just the STDs, but where he allegedly suggests that his girlfriend, Cathriona White, takes the “morning after pill” and that he texts her about sexual stuff while in the middle of a conversation about their deceased parents? Holy smokes, if this is true, this actor sounds like a real selfish and creepy jerk.

And this makes me glad to be a celibate single. No, I don’t want Herpes or Gonorrhea, no thanks. No, I don’t want to discuss bawdy sex stuff, certainly not in the midst of having a conversation about deceased loved ones, what the hell?

“My boyfriend was intimidated by my sexual history. So I dumped him.” by T. Hornung

“My boyfriend was intimidated by my sexual history. So I dumped him.” by T. Hornung

I’m not going to take the usual, secular, left wing feminist standard here (for one thing, I’m right wing and don’t always agree with secular feminists), where I’m supposed to say a woman’s sexual history is not a boyfriend’s business, or the boyfriend should not be upset by his girlfriend’s sexual past, and say, “Rah rah, women’s sexual freedom.”

I am forever amazed that “sex positive” feminists, whether they are men or women, assume that their previous sexual choices should not, or will not, have any consequences upon them or the people around them.

Some of us are more “serious” about sex than other people – sex actually means something to us, so yes, we find it troubling, and I suppose this is doubly so, if we are virgins over 35 years of age, and have to grapple with the fact that our current partner has had sex with other people in the past.
