Christian Network TBN Now Airing Secular Commercials – Their Holy Land Amusement Park Tanking

Well, this is interesting.

I don’t watch TBN nearly as often as I used to, but every so often, I do flip the channel over to see what is going on over there.

Certainly in the year 2020, TBN has been airing “secular” commercial advertisements for a company called “Car Shield.”

I think they may have been airing these ads in 2019.

Of course, the original founders of TBN have died in the last few years, with the son and his wife running things.

When Ma and Pa Crouch (that is, Jan and Paul) ran the network, they detested commercials.

They used to have “Praise A Thons” where they’d get their regular, money-grubbing, smarmy tele-evangelists to come on 24 hours a day for seven days straight, to lecture people about sending money to TBN, and making bogus “Wealth N Health” promises, that if you just mail Paul and Jan Crouch a few bucks, God would heal your cancer or bestow financial blessings upon  you.

After they died (Jan Crouch (Link): died in 2016), I think the son who took over the station realized that “Praise A Thons” were “Snooze A Thons,” so he dumped them.

Soon after dumping them, he tried 30 minute “infomercial” type blocks, where he and his wife would have a Christian author on to hawk whatever book they had recently published.

The deal was, if you mailed TBN some money, they would mail you a copy of that book. (They also use to sell baubles – if you sent them a donation, they would mail you some Jesus-themed doo-dad in return.)

That went on for a few years.

I wondered at the time if they could sustain their network on just that alone. Apparently not.

Suit alleges TBN covered up rape of 13-year-old

A granddaughter of Trinity Broadcasting Network founders Jan and Paul Crouch filed a lawsuit Monday alleging that she was plied with alcohol and raped by a TBN employee when she was just 13 — and that her family covered up the incident, rather than report it to authorities, to protect TBN’s reputation.

Carra Crouch, now 19, was distraught after the 2006 assault by a 30-year-old man, and told her grandmother what had happened. “Jan (Crouch) became furious and began screaming at Ms. Crouch, a thirteen year old girl, and began telling her ‘it is your fault,’” according to the suit.

Send Us Your Money Thon – TBN Praise A Thon

Please do not leave general, generic “I hate TBN” rants in this thread, if you want to leave a comment. This is not the thread for that purpose. This is a thread specifically about their “Praise a Thons” and how boring and annoying they are! (If you are dying to post a “I sure do hate TBN and / or the Prosperity Gospel they are always pushing” rant, then use this thread. Thanks.)
TBN began its tele-thon two days ago. Maybe I’m mistaken, but I think this is the third one they’ve done this year (they normally do only two per year). If this is the third one, I wonder why they’re doing a third?

I have always disliked the TBN tele thons which they call “Praise A Thons,” so I don’t usually watch them.

I’ve watched these TBN “give- us-your- money- thons” only long enough in the past a few times to see they are very boring, they usually have the same con artists doing “plant a seed!” type sermons (and they always include the preacher guy with the horrible blond hair that looks like a bad, cheap wig), other bad preaching, and loud, horrible singing.

One thing that particularly disgusts me about their Praise A Thons is that they air them even on Saturday mornings in place of the kid cartoons, and they also run Praise A Thons on Sunday mornings.

If you are a network that claims to be all down with spreading the Gospel, I would assume you would forgo the begging for money shtick so that little children can see cartoons about Jesus on Saturdays and that house-bound people, including seniors, can watch preachers on Sunday morning, but noooo, they can’t spare Saturday and Sunday mornings and have to run these dull Praise A Thon things on weekends too.

They also began at some point running the Praise A Thon for a second week, which is also annoying. The first week, this money grubbing, boring show is aired 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and then the week after, they tend to run it from about 4 PM to about 7 PM to 9 PM. As if running it 24/7 week one was not enough.

How I wish there was a sound alternative to TBN. Not only do they air too much Prosperity Gospel trash, but these Praise A Thon things are boring, and they do them 2 – 3 times a year.
