Liberal Bill Maher Is Right About Cancel Culture and Wokeness

Bill Maher is one of those liberals I can occasionally agree with.

I agree with him on many of the subjects he raises in these videos (they are in this post, below),
except for his swipe in one moment of one of the videos below, where he takes a shot at the border wall –
– the Democrat Biden Administration has been an utter disaster  on immigration and a failure at keeping the U.S. border orderly and safe (the Biden administration has also failed to keep illegal aliens safe), which I intend to make a post about in the future.

The rest of his points are spot on, though.

Jessica Alves has revealed her plans to undergo a womb transplant so she can fall pregnant, even though the procedure has never been undertaken on a transgender woman.

The TV personality, 37, who underwent sex reassignment surgery in February, revealed she is hoping to have the groundbreaking surgery as she becomes more and more desperate to have a child.

It came as Jessica also offered a glimpse of eye-popping figure in a series of exclusive snaps after joining the racy subscription site OnlyFans.

Should Parents’ Votes Count More? Unpacking J. D. Vance’s Attack on the “Childless Left”

The answer to the question put forth by J. D. Vance, “should parents’ votes count more than those of the childless” is a resounding NO.

I’m not exactly sure if Vance defines himself as a conservative, a populist, or what.

But I find that people who are non-liberal, non-left tend to assume anyone who is single or childless is an anti-American, Democrat-voting, nuclear family hating heretic.

I’m a conservative woman who arrived into middle age with never having married or having had children – not by choice, but by circumstance.

I deeply resent how so many conservatives or other types of non-liberals frequently equate womanhood, or maturity, with marriage and parenting (having children). It’s revolting and sexist.

Other conservatives (or non-liberals and non-leftists) who despise the left, who want to “own” the left, frequently come up with moves like this, which inevitably end up causing collateral damage.

Not all women (and men) who remain single and childless are there by choice or because they hate marriage and the nuclear family.

I will say that it’s rather disingenuous for the author of the following to frame the situation as Vance starting the “cultural war” when as of the last several years, non-liberals have been responding to cultural wars begun by liberals!

Contrary to leftist and liberal propaganda (as what appears in this piece at The Week by Mathis), conservatives and Republicans do not want to suppress votes, or stop anyone (i.e., American citizen) from voting.

J.D. Vance has endured a tough start to his campaign for the open U.S. Senate seat in Ohio, so maybe it’s no surprise that he’s borrowing a time-tested Republican tactic and doubling down on cultural warfare.

During a gathering of conservatives on Friday, the onetime Hillbilly Elegy author blasted the “childless left” — citing by name Democratic politicians including Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.).

“Why is this just a normal fact of American life, that the leaders of our country should be people who don’t have a personal indirect stake in it via their own offspring, via their own children and grandchildren?” Vance asked, rhetorically. (Harris, for what it’s worth, has two stepchildren with her husband, Doug Emhoff.)

 Better, he suggested, to give extra voting power to America’s parents.

I am not in agreement with all opinions of this author on other subjects, but on this one, yes, I sure am.

Republicans and conservatives used to participate in the Culture Wars (I’ve spoken out against this in older posts on this blog, such as this one or this one from 2013),
but in the last few years, it’s been the left, the liberals, and the Democrats, and the “Never Trump” Republicans who have been initiating and perpetuating the Culture Wars in the United States – but they keep acting as though the evangelicals, the Trump voters, conservatives, or Republicans, are behind the Culture Wars.

The word now is radicalized. So many people feel pushed to the edge and are pushing back.  Go to social-media sites and search “school board meeting” adding descriptors like “explosive,” “outrage” and “chaos.” Parents are rising up. New York Democrats just picked an anticrime former cop as their mayoral nominee.

Other signs that suggests a spirit of having been radicalized: Longtime alliances based on natural affinity are loosening.

Conservatives by nature support and respect the military. That’s changing among some of them, or at least becoming less reflexive, under the pressure of changes of political correctness and a woke brass.

… There’s a sense in America of a continuing political realignment, that it didn’t all start and end in 2015-2016.

I think that what happened last summer, when the streets erupted and statues toppled, is being answered now with a pushback – a quieter one but no less consequential.

There is a harrowing story in The New Yorker that everyone should grit their teeth and read [see also resources on this blog].

Written by Rachel Aviv, it tells the story of how a respected German psychologist named Helmut Kentler decided to foster neglected children with pedophiles, how he ran this experiment with government support for decades after the 1960s, and how it created exactly the kind of hells you would expect.

…. That today the readers of an impeccably progressive magazine recoil in horror from that extreme is, among other things, proof that revolutions don’t move in one direction — you can climb back up a slippery slope, you can break a taboo and partially rebuild it.

But in its retreat from the Polanski era, its concession that sometimes it’s OK to forbid, cultural progressivism entered into a long internal struggle over what its goal ought to be — to maximize permissiveness with some minimalist taboos (no rape, no sex with children) or to devise a broader set of sexual regulations that would reflect egalitarian and feminist values rather than religious ones.

A man in Port Orange, Florida, has been sentenced to two years in prison for not telling his sexual partners he was infected with HIV.

“Gentry Burns, 27, pleaded no contest Thursday to one count of uninformed HIV-infected sexual intercourse. Two other counts were dropped,” WESH (Link): reported.

Burns was initially charged in 2019 once an ex-girlfriend stepped forward with information that he was having sex with other women and apparently not telling them he was infected.
He will be put on probation for 12 months following his release from prison, the outlet stated.

Recently, my graduate students discussed how US culture sometimes idolizes sex. Citing a friend, one said, “the orgasm has replaced the cross as the place of transcendence in 21st century American culture.”

A recent study suggested that, though casual sex is more accepted than ever, loneliness is too.

 Twenty-seven percent of Americans feel isolated, but loneliness is far worse among eighteen to twenty-two year-olds, followed by Millennials. The least lonely were Americans aged seventy-two and older—those having fewer sexual encounters.

Western culture often celebrates eros (romantic or sexual love) exclusively, but Scripture speaks of four distinct types of love: storge (love for those who are familiar, such as family, neighbors, coworkers, etc.), agape (God’s love), philia (love between kindred spirits), and eros.

Tres Genco, 21, was arrested Wednesday and is also facing charges related to illegally possessing a machine gun, according to the Justice Department.

Prosecutors say Genco identified as an incel or an “involuntary celibate,” a community of mostly men who harbor anger toward women who they believe owe them sexual or romantic attention. Some incels seek to commit violence to support this belief.

Genco’s indictment includes startling detail of the months-long efforts prosecutors say he took to plan a mass shooting and to purchase weapons and other equipment to fulfill that goal.
