Church Tries to Punish Girls Who Sued Over Sex Abuse by Outing Them – Singles: Don’t Take Dating Advice from Religious Groups Who Think It’s Acceptable to Harass Rape Victims – And Dump Equally Yoked Teaching

This story is horrible enough as it is, and another indicator of how unsympathetic and awful churches are towards abuse victims of all kinds.

However, I also wanted to add this observation, as outlined in the next few paragraphs.

I was taught as a kid that Christian singles are only to marry other Christians, which is sometimes called “being equally yoked.”

My parents, who were Christians, would advise me when I was younger to seek out a spouse in a local church, if I wanted to marry.

In light of stories like the one I’m posting here, I don’t think I consider churches a good place to meet potential dates or mates any longer. I am questioning that.

If church members think it’s compassionate or acceptable to be hostile to child sex abusive victims and to protect the pedophile who assaulted them, one wonders how heartless and immoral the persons at that church must be in other areas, and how terrible their judgement concerning other things is.

Pro-Rape Pastor Defends Church’s Hiring of Child Rapist – Adult Singles: Dump the Equally Yoked Teaching

Pro-Rape Pastor Defends Church’s Hiring of Child Rapist – Adult Singles: Dump the Equally Yoked Teaching

I spotted this link (shared farther down page) when it was shared on WatchKeep’s Twitter today. My blog is not about child sexual abuse per se. I tend to focus, most often, on issues surrounding adult singleness.

If you are an adult Christian single who wants to be married, please reconsider following the “Be equally yoked” teaching. Whether or not the guy in this news story I have in this blog post is a “true” Christian or not is beside the point.

You can date a Christian man who you believe to be a “true” Christian – maybe you met him at church (which is pretty rare because single males do not attend churches), or maybe you met him on a Christian dating site (which some Christian men have used to select rape victims), and he shows all the outward signs of “loving the Lord” and so on and so forth – but then it is revealed he is a child rapist.

Would you really want to discover the guy you married is a child rapist, or views child porn?

I also question the pastor of this church who is defending the child rapist: could you imagine marrying a preacher, who you would assume is a godly man, only to find out he blames child rape victims for having been raped?

Also be aware that pedophiles actively seek wife material at churches. That’s right, single Christian lady: some guy who is a pedophile may start flirting with you at church or in Sunday School, hoping you will date and marry him. I did (Link): a post about this several days ago.

If You Were Sexually Abused, You Cannot Work At These Churches

Some churches are refusing to hire people who admit on their job applications to having been sexually abused

If You Were Sexually Abused, You Cannot Work At These Churches

Not only is child sexual abuse addressed on some of these employment forms, but according to these articles (links farther below), some churches ask applicants about their views on fornication, or if they’ve ever been accused of homosexuality.

I find this pretty hypocritical. If you’ve followed this blog before, you know I was waiting until marriage to have sex – as a result, I am now over 40 years of age and still a virgin, because I never married.

What I have observed as I’ve gotten older is that while many Christians pay “lip service” to respecting adult virginity or celibacy, that in practice, they do not.

Sometimes, some Christians (conservatives, no less, but also most progressives) ridicule and mock virginity, and they ridicule or put down adult virgins for being virgins. (Please see the links under the “Related Posts” at the bottom of this post for examples.)

Not only is there little to no philosophical, theological, or intellectual support for adult virginity (and by extension, adult singleness past one’s mid 20s or so), but there is no concrete support – churches and Christians seldom have ministries to meet the needs of adult single celibates.

There are rarely sermons preached on a regular basis on adult single celibacy – compare that to the topic of marriage. Most churches offer a “ten steps to a stronger marriage” type sermon series once every few weeks but never sermonize about singleness.

Josh Duggar (Christian TV Personality) Resigns from Family Research Council after Child Sexual Abuse Allegations

Christian Josh Duggar Resigns from Family Research Council after Sexual Abuse Allegations

For anyone who may be new to this blog:

I’m pretty right wing, though not as right wing as I used to be, but I am not a liberal Democrat.

I don’t consider myself to be in agreement with most of left wing, secular feminism (though I reject Christian gender complementarianism, and feminism in my view is not the same thing as Christian egalitarianism), and I am not opposed to traditional values, the family, or to marriage.

Where I take issue with Christians and other right wingers pertains to their habit of taking family, marriage, and procreation to the point they deify each, and they exclude or ignore adult singles, child free people, and the childless.

There’s nothing wrong with marriage, or people having children, but there is something deeply wrong with a Christian culture that builds up marriage and natalism at the expense of anyone who does not fit those positions.

Although I am no fan of left wing politics or most left wing causes and values, I am not exactly fond of how obsessed some right wingers are with ramping up or participating in the culture wars.

I am especially perturbed, shocked, and disgusted by these news stories of well-known, or prominent, right wing Christians who loudly and regularly scream in favor of “defending the family” yet they themselves end up getting divorced (these same “pro family” groups usually shame divorced people for being divorced), or news leaks that they are secretly homosexual, or they are having heterosexual affairs.

The members of these same “pro family” groups have the audacity to usually cast adult singles, celibates, and the childfree, as being irresponsible, deficient, and immature – themselves violate their own ideals about marriage and family.

How dare these hypocrites accuse people such as myself – never married, childless adults who are celibate – of being sexually immoral or irresponsible and ungodly when they are not living out good values?

But still, Baptist, Reformed, and conservative evangelical Christians keep marching to this insulting drum beat that getting married and having children are necessary life events to make a person godly, mature, and loving.

I notice that some left wing types are using this Duggar story as an opportunity to say, “see, homosexuality is not so bad. How dare right wing, Family Values proponents knock on homosexuality as they do.”

I fail to see how a hetero guy molesting little girls somehow is proof that homosexuality is morally acceptable, anymore than it would prove a (Link): man having sex with a horse or a (Link): man having sex with his own biological daughter is acceptable.

(That a child molester has spoken out against X at some time but is guilty himself of Z, is not necessarily grounds to prove that X is okay.)

I appreciate the fact –  the hypocrisy –  that this Duggar guy was part of an organization that spoke out against homosexuality while himself guilty of prior sexual sin, but I don’t see where the Bible excuses either forms of sexual behavior: homosexuality or a teenaged boy molesting little girls.

(That’s all I care to say about that topic, as my blog does not focus a whole lot on the culture wars vis a vis homosexuality.)

This family has been featured on daily Christian television show “700 Club” at least once, possibly more, and one of the episodes that featured the Duggers was repeated two or more times over one to two years. I wrote a post about this a few years ago, I don’t know if I can find it again. Here it is:

I think Christian TV shows should be more careful about having some of these people on as examples or as role models, when they or their family members later turn out to be adulterers, sexists, or child molesters.

The 700 Club has had various “Christian celebrities” on who later were found guilty of child molesting, having affairs, getting divorced (after promoting a book about marriage, or going on about how “the Lord” made their marriage great), or in saying horrible things, like girls should be married by the time they are 16 years old, etc.

Here is the latest example of a “Christian” family who was interviewed on 700 Club, and who also paraded “family values” around constantly, but one of their family members was, according to several news sites, molesting girl relatives:

  • The Duggars, the reality TV family famous for its progeny (19 Kids and Counting) and its conservatism, is reeling now that oldest son, Josh, has been forced to acknowledge he was investigated for molesting underage girls when he was a teenager in Arkansas.
  • His acknowledgement came after InTouch magazine published a story Thursday about police records it obtained from Springdale, Ark., hidden since 2006, that show Josh Duggar confessed to his father, Jim Bob Duggar, who then waited more than a year before contacting police about what his then 15-year-old son admitting doing to five girls.
  • Josh Duggar apologized Thursday and abruptly resigned his job at the Family Research Council in Washington, one of the leading conservative groups fighting abortion and gay marriage among other causes.

Mother Had Own Daughter Raped To Pay For Drugs

Mother Had Own Daughter Raped To Pay For Drugs

In the last few weeks, I’ve not been posting too much at this blog. During this time, I’ve seen several news stories of parents who have raped or murdered their own children, sometimes because they have mental problems, or they are selling the kid for drugs, or what have you. I don’t have time to blog on all those stories (I’d advise you to visit (Link): my Twitter page for the latest marriage, dating, and abuse stories.)

Social conservatives (of which I am one myself, though I don’t agree with them on every topic) and conservative Christians have repeatedly suggested or claimed that being a parent (or being married) matures a person, is more representational of God, and makes a person more loving and responsible. Here is another story which shows all that is biased hog-wash.

(Link): Mother Had Own Daughter Raped to Pay For Drugs

  • Thirty-year-old mom April Corcoran allegedly had her daughter (Link): raped in order to pay for heroin. Those are the charges made by Ohio prosecutors after indicting her on 27 felony counts.
  •  Those counts include “complicity in rape, complicity in gross sexual imposition, endangering children, and human trafficking,” according to the Cincinnati website.
  • Corcoran pleaded not guilty to the charges on Thursday, but is being held on a $5 million bond.

There were two individual instances of rape for heroin, prosecutors say, claiming that one occurred in February 2014 and the other a few months later in June.

The daughter of April Corcoran, who was not named for her own safety and protection, was reportedly just 11 years old at the time when her mom allegedly dropped her off at the home of a 41-year-old accused drug dealer named Shandell Willingham.

A report from USA Today reveals that Willingham will face one less charge than Corcoran (26). Among those charges: human trafficking, rape, and allegedly videotaping himself raping the little girl multiple times.

In comments to WCPO TV, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters called the case “sad beyond measure,” adding that instead of protecting her child, April Corcoran “saw her as a way to get drugs because the lure of heroin was apparently too strong.”

Man Suspected Of Using Bible Study To Molest Children In His Home

Man Suspected Of Using Bible Study To Molest Children In His Home

Yep, another fine example of why I gave up on the “be equally yoked” teaching, because even Bible using, Bible believing Christian men rape little children.

(Link): Man arrested for sex crimes on juveniles

(Link): Bible Study Teacher Arrested On Multiple Counts Of Sexual Molestation

(Link): Man Suspected Of Using Bible Study To Molest Children In His Home

  • A man has been arrested in Corona, California, for allegedly teaching Bible study as an excuse to lure children into his private home and molest them.
  •  According to CBS Local Los Angeles, 54-year-old Bible study teacher Shawn Edward Shaffer of Corona was taken into custody on Monday on suspicion of sexually molesting juveniles under the age of 16. Police say the man was possibly conducting Bible studies for youths in his home, and using that opportunity to take sexual advantage of minors. The Bible study teacher has not been officially charged, but authorities are investigating the truth behind his peculiar private Bible classes.
  • The Bible teacher is being detained at Robert Presley Detention Center in Corona on $3 million bail, according to police officials. He is facing multiple accounts of sexual molestation of minors, which could mean Shaffer was regularly using Bible study as a trick to continually bring victims into his home.
  • It’s unclear how many children were victimized by Shaffer’s Bible class ruse, because detectives were only recently made aware of the man’s crimes by fully grown men. Several adult males have come forward with allegations about the Bible teacher, claiming that they were sexually abused as children within the city of Corona. Authorities haven’t confirmed yet if these men are claiming to have attended Shaffer’s Bible study, but the implication seems to be that the man were victims of the Bible teacher.
  • According to Inland News Today, Shaffer not only used Bible lessons as a method to lure children into his home. He would also hang around local skate parks, presumably to speak to the juveniles and advertise his Bible class.

Blaming Women for the Sexually Abusive (and married) Male Pastor by A. Morcy

Blaming Women for the Sexually Abusive Male Pastor by A. Morcy

I hope I am getting the last name of the author correct. It’s hard to tell if it’s Morcy or MorEy.

(Link): Blaming Women for the Sexually Abusive Male Pastor

I would encourage you to click the link and read the whole thing at the other site; I will only be pasting in a few paragraphs from the page.

The emphasis added below by way of bold font was added by me.

Note that Christian teaching on sex often puts the responsibility and onus on women to keep men pure. When and if men do sexually sin, women are often blamed.

For example, Christians frequently teach un-bibical, false beliefs, such as that men are incapable of sexual self control, God designed men to be visually wired or visually stimulated. They often teach the flip side, that women can cause men to stumble by way of their sexuality and clothing choices.

Single women are especially singled out (pardon the unintentional pun there), as Christians teach men that single women are to be avoided, because single women are sexual temptresses who can and will lead single and married men astray.

This view is problematic and insulting for a few reasons, one of which is that it denies a woman’s agency and does not acknowledge that every woman has her own preferences.

To put this another way, contrary to what Christians are teaching, I, as a single woman, do not find every single or married man I meet physically attractive, so I would not be inclined to want to have sex with such men. This, however, is never taken into account by Christians.

Christians who teach that all single women are harlots  (including Christian ones) just insultingly assume that I, a  single woman, whose standard of male sexiness and male beauty is on the level of movie star Hugh Jackman (that man is foxy fine!) would just as easily be turned on by a fat, balding, pot-bellied 62 year old preacher.

Ergo, Christians would tell even the fat, ugly, balding 62 year old preacher man to never, ever to meet alone with me, the, may I add, stunning, attractive, alluring and awesome 40 something.

In the usual Christian teachings on modesty, the burden for controlling man’s sexuality is put on the woman for some reason I have never fathomed.

Women are told by Christians (and this is quite similar to Islam’s views on this subject), that they are to dress modestly, because if a Christian man gets a glimpse of a woman’s leg, ear lobe, bare shoulder, or what have you, that the man will have lusty thoughts, and his having lusty thoughts then is blamed on the woman.

Never is the onus put on the man by Christian culture to control his own thought life and to take responsibility for his sexual sin. In almost every book, blog, sermon, or conversation I have come across, this responsibility is always placed on the woman by Christians.

  • With the exception of a few recent articles, most of them cited here, studies on clergy sexuality published in sociological, psychological or religious periodicals — as well as fictional treatments — have focused on male clergy adultery without mentioning the consequences suffered by women involved. Not only does the literature say almost nothing about the other woman,” but it fails to pay any serious attention to the fate of the minister’s wife when she discovers her husband’s sexual betrayal.
  • The term “adultery” does not adequately define male ministers’ sexual involvement with female parishioners. Marie Fortune, executive director of the Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence in Seattle, suggests that a male pastor’s sexual advances toward a woman that occur while he performs his professional duties are better understood as “sexual abuse.” Whereas the term “adultery” implies that both participants are consenting equals, the term “sexual abuse” assumes that a person has used personal, social or physical power to coerce sexual intimacy.
  • …. Pastoral counseling is one of the pastor’s professional tasks that is likely to offer opportunities for sexual abuse
  • ….. The time-honored response to such situations is to blame women — the “other woman” or the pastor’s wife — for the sexual transgressions of a male minister.

Church Videographer Who Sounded Very Christian in His Social Media Accounts Accused of Molesting Girls

Church Videographer Who Sounded Very Christian in His Social Media Accounts Accused of Molesting Girls

As I’ve said many times, Christian single women need to abandon the “be equally yoked” teaching, which limits them to only dating men who appear to be Christian. First of all, there is a shortage of Christian single adult males.

Secondly, even the Bible quoting, church going variety of Christian men turn out to be child rapists. See the story below.

This particular pervert, as one site noted, even peppered his social media accounts with Bible quotations and so on. Also note that in some of his Tweets, he mentions believing in “Family Values.”

Blogger John Morgan would argue that the two little girls in this story below are now “married” to this pervert, all because they had sexual contact. See (Link): this post for more on that.

  • The molestation, alleged to have happened at Greenville Presbyterian Church on Pendleton Street, was reported to police on Jan. 1.
  • The girls, ages 4 and 6, said they were repeatedly molested by church videographer, 23-year-old Gilbert Broyles, in November and December.Arrest warrants say Broyles admitted to church leaders that he either touched the girls underneath their clothing or got them remove items of clothing and touched them in “their private areas.”Police said they interviewed Broyles, and after he admitted his involvement with the girls, he was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
